Hi Hanno:

Interesting caption... looks like CL on the census number. ;)

First time I've seen a photo of the star painted onto the tarpaulin like that.

Cheers! Mike

Other than the picture in Gregg's book, this is the first wartime picture I have ever seen of a 20-cwt GS trailer. And it was taken in Holland! Berlagebrug, Amsterdam, 8 May 1945.

I see a better use for the hatch has been found.

Excellent, thanks!

Judging by the 16-inch wheels, this was a 15-cwt version.

Well spotted, Hanno. Here is another one, again with 16inch wheels. August 1944, Normandy, Prinses Irene Brigade.

Trailer T reflector

Hello
I have the oppertunity to make some T reflectors for the Cdn and British 1940's trailers. Is there an interest?

I am also looking for any data pertaining to the Canadian 10cwt trailers, both CMP and 1/4 ton.
Thanks
Eric

Erm, actually, this is a British 15-cwt water trailer with 13 inch wheels. . .

Post-war pic of three 20-cwt trailers in Holland, these were modified for use by a friend's father, Mr. Beijersbergen, for carting around building materials. GMC trucks were used to pull them.

It's hard to see if this one is 15 or 20 cwt, but here goes...

Another picture of a 20-cwt trailer.

From the Belgian Brigade Piron website, captioned: "May 1945, Cpl Florent Dutrieux on the Rhine crossing".

Thanks to Guy over on HMVF for finding it.

Interesting picture, Hanno. Judging from the angles of the engine cover, it's a cab12. The body looks like a British built wooden GS body to me.

Is that the Guards Armoured divison sign on the fender? If the AoS is the same as the Bedford QL behind it, than it could be "Armoured Brigade Motor Batallion", Guards Armoured Brigade.
Background does look very Dutch, by the way!

20CWT trailers

I have a axel with 1100x20 tires on it .It had springs on it. Bud wheels ,5 bolts .Could have been from a trailer like this??

Bob Carriere 15-02-17 01:00

Interesting pictures

But it seems all the GS have wooden boxes........ were any made with steel GS configuration in 20cwt.

We have the frame of a water tanker trailer with the old civilian 8:25 x20 rims.

Help my failing memory but was the steel GS trailer on 16 in. CMP rims only 15cwt capacity?

Cheers

Grant Bowker 15-02-17 01:57

There is a steel 20 cwt GS described in the AEDB design records. Like the wood bodies it has the stepped sides. The 15cwt had flat/vertical sides without the step.
Normally, the 15cwt had 16" wheels and the 20cwt had 20".
The 20cwt isn't listed as using any 10ga steel, only 12 and 14. But - some of the 12ga has stiffening corrugations. Are you thinking of building a body for your chassis?

Bob Carriere 15-02-17 02:05

Nah.......

You're the trailer restorer......... you can have the frame and build a wooden 20cwt.

Would prefer finishing the roof and 2B1 cargo box first...... then will see how much steam I have left.

Looks like the snow Gods are angry again.

Cheers

Alex van de Wetering 15-02-17 11:30

Bob,

The link mentioned in Hanno's post at the top of this thread points towards the old MLU domain, but if change the .org to .net, you will find some nice pictures of steel bodies GS trailers.
http://www.mapleleafup.net/forums/sh...p?t=1540&pp=30

It's surprising how many trailers you see in pictures of the Dutch Liberation....
you even see German trailers being used....and even the back half of 15cwt GS trucks made into trailers!

Thanks Alex.......

Entertaining walk down memory lane........

Where did all these years go???
