Chevy jewel

Quite some time back I got onto a source for NOS Chevy Jewels here in Australia. At that time some of you emailed me wanting to purchase.
Despite much trying I cannot obtain these. The person concerned appears to be working on the principle that if they are in demand now, they will be in greater demand in time to come.

I am not haggling the price with him either. I was quite prepared to pay what he asked as it seemed reasonable.

I hate having to deal (or try to) with @#$%s!

Pure and simple, I get the run around every time I ask him for them.

I do have the one I bought originally, but only that one and it is not for sale.

So, sorry to get people's hopes up, but that is the way this thing has gone.

rare gems

Hello Douglas,

I got one of these jewels a few years ago from a "dealer" i know quite well, and lives in Belgium now. I actually took this one off a piece of card board, with my own hands. There where about 20 of them..............................................
If i only knew then.
This, however, goes for all things old. Some fellow restorers i meet once every week can clearly remember driving around on both Harley and BMW motorcycles years after the war had ended, they got from the local scrapyard, bought for a cuople of guilders, and simply left them lying in the bushed when they broke down.

Next time i speak to the guy who sold me the jewel, i will ask him if he still has them. Maybe, because he does mainly US (UnServiceable) vehicles.

Martin.

Hi Doug,
Sounds just like a fellow I had dealings with, dragged me down to Sydney on thepromise of a part I was after, and then tells me he doesn't have one,,BUT if I'd leave my part with him he knows a bloke who can make one for me, at a price, of course!! When I asked this blokes name I got abused.

Does anyone have an idea how we could create a "Please Beware List" of such operators.

Anton

This idea has come up before. It is very enticing
but the reality is that you could get sued for
defamation of character. You would have to prove
the *&%#@ did the things to you that you have
said. Being from another state is no protection
either!

Better left alone.

Chevy Jewel

Original Chevy jewels are obviously difficult to get, but a few years ago I purchased reproductions from Brian Asbury in Ontario, Canada. I think it is better with a reproduction jewel than no jewel at all.

His adress: PO Box 26, Milton, Ontario, Canada L9T 2Y3.

Maybe other dealers have this reproduction-jewels as well?
:)

Aaron you are lucky it is make of Brass, at least it won't rust after you bogged your Blitz (again)in that water hole at Corowa Last week end (can't wait for the YOTBII DVD).

Doug,

Why not post the name & address of "the person" here? So you were not able to buy some off him, maybe other people are more lucky / have fatter wallets?

Aaron,

See the pic below of a GM Canada "dash jewel". I use it as a logo for my Made in Canada - CMP vehicles website. Brian Gough gave me a reproduction jewel, it actually is a pin which I wear on Barry Churcher's CMP cap. As Chevrolet afficionados, I think they were quite disappointed when I bought a Ford CMP eventually :)

Mr. X........

Hanno,

I think the one i have (which i´ve been wearing on my A-2 jacket for some years now, and no-one ever recognised it...) is a copy too, because it is very similar to the one you have. Mine does have a screw back however.
The reason why i was not mentioning "the guy" by name inmediately is because i want to be very carefull with other people´s names on the internet, without them knowing of it. I just realised however that he posted an advert on this forum (i think it was the old one) for Canadian instruments. His name is Jaap Rietveld. Besides the fact that i know he lives in belgium, i do not have his address. I do know that whenever i meet him, it is in the UK, and that he travels a lot.
Maybe Geoff (or you for that matter) can retrieve the old thread, so you can contact him by E-mail.
Cheers,

Martin.

Jaap

The Oxford CMP crew do a lot of business with Jaap and have done for a number of years, he comes with our full recommendation. A fair dealer and a nice guy to boot.

If people want to contact him e-mail me and I will put you in contact with him.

Pete

That is like the one I have but the one that max has isnt the brass type. The picture is of the one max has and has a genuine GM Canada jewel and the other 2 better looking ones are reproduction ones.
I got the picture of keiths site http://www.oldcmp.net/hedgetreasures.html

Hanno

Because, if he empties those deep pockets and
fails to deliver it will be me who gets the
heat from the upset purchasers - something along
the lines of "you told me about him, he is one of your countrymen, do something".

Be patient. Sooner or later something will happen.

No more jewels in Belgium !

Just spoke to Jaap Rietveld last thursday. He no longer ahd any of the jewels i once bought from him.
How about making them ourselves ? All we have to do is find a company that makes lapel-pins etc. Does anyone have an idea?

Martin.

Reproduction Chevvy Jewel

I deal with a company in Adelaide that specialises in promotional materials. They can reproduce logos etc. on any medium. I can approach them for a costing but would then need a sample, even a good image giving the correct dimensions. A sample would be best then exact dimensions and materials could be determined. The other advantage is the current exchange rate favours items being made here, unless someone has a contact in Asia where things are reproduced dirt cheap. I'm willing to do the groundwork. Over to you gals and guys.

Bob
