Carriers at War & Peace

Afternoon all,

We have arranged for an event at W & P for universal carriers and all their variants on Saturday at 1300 and Sunday at 1215.

Windsors, Lloyds, Universals, Carden LLoyd, T16's all are welcome: when I first suggested this earlier in the year we seemed to have about 14 or 15 interested, but I hope we can do better.

As far as I a can remember (over the past 25 years) we have never had a slot purely for the most numerous armoured vehicle built and felt that should change.

So anyone who has a tracked carrier of any type, please come out and play !

I do know that we have one being shipped from Australia and one from Canada to take part at W & P so lets set a benchmark for others to try and reach.

Also, just to let everyone know, the Arena Events are open to anyone with a vehicle relevant to the Arena heading, so please look at the programme when you arrive and come and show off !

Look forward to seeing many of you there.

I will post this on HMVF as well but please feel free to pass the info on to anyone who might be interested.

Andy

Aussie carrier

Any hints as to who the Aussie bringing a carrier might be?
This event is on my bucket list and I'm interested in shipping cost to do it in the future.

Hey Shaun,

as one of the 'tribe of kiwis' I would like a drive of that formerly sand Mk II again please.

And Ben, I've driven this Bren (see below) a few times, so would like to compare the Scout!

Euan, you might want to come to NZ in January next year to our carrier gathering...watch this space.

Rob

I suppose we can let you off in the circumstances.

By the way the PWRR display in the Arena this year should be a bit special.

See you there

Andy

Hi Andy,

I'll be bringing my MkII*. Sadly my friend Hans Bekkers, MkI*, had to cancel due to other obligations.

There will be a space on my trailer now that I won't need. Anybody from Holland interested in having his/her MV transported to W&P and back? Just send me an email or PM.

Cheers,

Ben 24-05-14 19:41

Rob, you borrow HMH 244 for the week and we can compare one to the other ;-) I think you'll find the same early control set up in both!

Ben

Rob Beale 26-05-14 11:44

Funny you should say that...

we have asked for it for next years gathering in January!
(Don't think we will get the one beside it though!)
So is your passport current?

Rob

Ben 26-05-14 15:09

Yep. I'm not interested in what's parked next to it.

Rob Beale 25-06-14 11:14

Two weeks to go nearly...

Well chaps what are the numbers looking like? UK is the home of the carrier and it will be great to see them up close.

Got to start packing soon, and then I head up north of the equator!
There will be a 10 hour wait for Lynn: (WA is a bit behind NZ time).

Rob

From the uttermost ends of the earth.

Andy Mitchell 25-06-14 13:35

Hiya,

Looks like about 10, hopefully more !

Its a long uphill walk from N Zealand isnt it.

Very impoerssed you are making the trip !

Andy

Lynn Eades 25-06-14 15:59

Andy, we are hoping the "long up hill walk" will make us feel warm when we get there. :)

Rob, I thought N.Z. was Geocentric. (Middle earth is Matamata)

Wait for me

Hi All
I've just been looking at the thread and realized I have not told the world that I'll be at War and Peace this year.

Looking forward to meeting most of you for the first time. It sounds like a great roll up of carriers this year as well.

I have managed to pack a couple of bits into a container that left Australia about 4 weeks ago.

The container is being dropped at the War and Peace site.
I loaded the following

3 aerial base mounts
6 Shepard crooks
1 carrier (British)
4 AA poles
2 or 3 sets of sprockets ( can't remember)
about a set and a half of track

Happy to accept British pounds, Euro, USD. AUD. Just need to pack the calculator.

See you all soon.
Nigel

shaun 27-06-14 08:29

All sounds good nigel, can't wait to have a shufti . What day does the container open ?

Andy Mitchell 27-06-14 11:03

Certainly looks like being a great show for carriers, very Empire & Commonwealth based, looking forward to meeting all of you !

Andy

RichardT10829 27-06-14 17:52

Nige, as discussed I will take an antenna base bracket :-)

Ben 27-06-14 19:40

A British MK1 has to be the first on British soil for a while!

I'm still up for a crook. Hope to see you on the pre W&P whistle stop tour........then at the show. You can relieve me of rusty steel :)

Ben

Rob Beale 30-06-14 11:51

Sounds great Andy

I'm looking forward to meeting up with our commonwealth colleagues.
We will have reps from all the nations that built carriers in WW2!

Just to whet everyone's appetite, here are a couple of pics of what ten carriers look like when they are all lined up in a field.
The pictures were taken by me at Wings over Wairarapa in 2003.

There is a thread by Tony Smith Mk1 with more pics he took there.
This prompted the Year of the Carrier in Aussie in 2005,
and we will do it again at Wairarapa in NZ, January 2015!

see you all

Hello All

With Andy's fantastic effort to get us our own slot I think we should take full advantage and park them all up to get a group photo! We could do the vehicles then perhaps another outside the arena before we all disperse for any other MLU er's who fancy having their picture taken??

Any suggestions Andy? Will there be a suitable moment and spot to congregate before or after the driving around?

Cheers

Ben

There is a particular photo I would like to re create if we could..... We would need some lads with the period british motorcycles to be complete, but the carriers would do it if not.

Andy Mitchell 09-07-14 10:38

Hello Folks,

We can arrange the carriere photo in the Arena , I will have a word with some of the official photographers and see what we can come up with.

Not sure if we can do it with m/c's as well Rich but maybe possible somewhere else on site.

Have to be a bit careful as we arent allowed to churn up the race course !

Anyway, look forward to seeing everyone at W & P.

Andy

Perfect, thanks Andy. I'm sure we'll have time to sort it out.

Here is a clip from the dvd of Corowa Swim-In of 2005, The Year of the Carrier, when about 20 were on display. I wonder how close we will be to that figure at W&PR this year ..
