LandRover Wolf on Crown Assets sale

Obseved on the CADC web site, a 1997 LandRover Wolf for sale.
I haven't had much luck linking directly to an item but if you start with this link https://www.gcsurplus.ca/mn-eng.cfm?...=0&sc=ach-shop you may need to specify Alberta as the region and that you are interested in Cars And Light Trucks to find it quickly.

Another just closed about a week ago. It sold for $11311.99.

maple_leaf_eh 03-04-13 05:45

That seems like a lot of $$$ for a RHD 15yr old Land Rover with 110+ k on the clock. Maybe it will be worth more in a few years. :confused Oh, and lots of fresh Alberta snow included.

Check the Landrover section on Milweb.net

Good value for money if you live local and dont have to truck it miles and are a Land Rover addict.

Interesting that it is over 15 years old which has significance.

I think you hit the nail on the head Robin.....these trucks meet the 15 year import rule, so they are allowed to be "imported" and, once safetied, registered for the road despite not having been tested by transport Canada.

Not that many years ago, British vehicles from Suffield were sold with the provision that they had to be exported. Needless to say, they did not go for a lot of money.

Suffield landrovers..

That's just stupid money. Plenty of LHD Defenders went out the door at $3K and were in about the same shape a few years ago. Those were easy to register, some of the later ones were certainly a challenge. Prospective buyers should be aware that 120K on the Suffield Prairie is a very hard life. The base is big so you do pack on the mileage just transiting from the base to the training area by gravel road, but if it saw range control use it followed the Battle Group cross country. Used to be easy to spot with Red markings (Ferrets were used for a long time) but now I am seeing Chev pickups with range control markings for sale privately. And usually beat to hell.

And the vehicles held in Suffield don't belong to a particular unit, they are pool vehicles. The crews fly over, use (and abuse them) and then go home. The crews do not treat them well at all, we were always amazed how badly the average squaddie treated the vehicles. I can remember back in the 80's working lowbed party, loading our light tracks on trucks back to Calgary watching Brits jumping Land Rovers off the loading ramp. One, after a particularly athletic leap actually bent the frame so badly that one wheel didn't touch the ground. No matter mate, just drove it back and parked it in the line up. He flew home the next day.

Rob and others,

Pull up a sand bag.

Someone, somewhere, likely in a government office, makes the decision as to what is sold where that comes out of BATUS.

That person occupies a position, the person in that position changes over time.

That person makes a decision that this kit is ok to sell off here and we see it or it is hideously war like and should not be left in the hands of the likes of you and me.

The 15 year old rule, which Rob twigged very quickly as to what I was on about, would have meant that these two trucks which are infact even older than the Wolfs could have been sold in Canada but were not

When you consider the hullabaloo that the MLVWs have created it is easier for a bureaucrat to say NO than to risk their job and allow something. SOP for any civil servant, making a decision is not their remit.

As far as being value, it is the same as beauty, its all in the eye of the beholder.

I know there is a Land Rover Wolf short wheel base coming to Eastern Canada from the UK in the next few months, what monies changed hands I will know when it arrives as I have to do the import paperwork.

Now, if anyone knows of one of these trailers would they please get a hold of me?

Just remember, this is a public forum and is viewed by anyone . . .

Methinks someone slipped the decimal point on this one: $45,000 for basically the same vehicle as the first one. Have to see if the sale goes through, although somehow I doubt it. Seems to me for this price you could buy one from the UK and air-freight it here.

Grant Bowker 10-04-13 18:30

I agree that 45K seems high, but 1/10th that seems low to import a driveable LandRover of any vintage. As you say, wait to see what happens...

There are lots of tire kickers and wishful thinker on any auction site. If the guy really meant $4,500, then he is not likely to win.

In fact, on looking again at the site, the price has now been adjusted to $8680.99. Another just sold a few hours ago for $14,668.99 .

I also see one of the DEW engineering produced tire machines sold out of Edmonton for $450. Missing the attachments, but they are a good machine. Now that was a steal. They are essentially a copy of the Coats HIT5000.

Batus

Ah, BATUS. This tread brings back memories of Suffield . I was a young captain in 1991 when i was a candidate on the Combat Team Commander's course there. My first surprise was to see the amount of armour the Brits had there.I quickly surmised that they had more armour in BATUS that we had in ALL of Canada.

I was travelling around in a M113 then coming across Ferrets , Scorpions and what wa s the name of those tanks again ? Challengers i think. Now that was some equipment. Rows of hangars filled with them.

On the old BATF airport there were even Brit helicopters. They conducted a dust-off medevac mission for one of our guys to bring him to hospital in Medecine Hat.Poor guy. Lost an eye to a bungee holding his stuff in the rack in the back of a M113.The helo's were Lynx' s :confused if i recall.

Lots of Land Rovers on and off base also. Shopping center, grocery store , the works .If i recall they were right hand drive.

Have they changed the drivers's side on the LR 's lately ?

A beer to the one that knows the answer .

Thanks.

Bob,

British Army vehicles (incl. Land Rovers) are RHD, but they also had a fleet of LHD vehicles which were stationed in Germany (BAOR).

Hanno

Robin Craig 11-04-13 12:25

Hanno is 99% correct.

Land Rover produces vehicles with both left and right hand drive.

The British military has purchased both left and right hand drive.

There was effort put into sending appropriate handed vehicles to BAOR etc.

It didn't always work that way and in some years quite a lot of BATUS fleet have been the "wrong" hand drive.

This has also applied to the other wheeled vehicles in such locations.

The purchase of both handed vehicles is being scaled back if not nearly phased out in some new vehicle purchases.

Two more Defenders were listed as for sale today

Minimum bid on each is $2000, closing May 31. Located in Medicine Hat, both are listed as not running.

maple_leaf_eh 25-05-13 06:07

Final price for one

Sold For:

$8,680.99

Item:

1997 Land Rover Wolf

Grant Bowker 25-05-13 13:05

The selling prices for the last four out the door (figuratively speaking) were:

25 March $11311.99
9 April $8680.99
10 April $14668.99
12 April $10156.99

All of the above were basically listed as runners with flaws (chipped glass, "needs a boost to start", bent hood latch, but nothing major listed). Each of the current pair are listed as "not running, does not drive" so you would expect the price to be less than those sold without the comment.

Robin Craig 26-05-13 01:04

What you have to remember is that what is sold is not as described. The earlier vehicles are not turbo powered but in the ads are described as such. As always you really have to know what you are looking at as to whether you are buying a Land Rover 90, a Land Rover Defender 90 or a Land Rover Wolf 90.

If i am confusing any of you, the clue is that the three above are not the same :teach:
