Hi everyone. Found myself a project to keep me occupied for a lengthy period by getting this carrier operational.

Hi William. Met you on the zoom call tonight. Welcome aboard!

William Ormsby 17-11-21 19:04

Thanks. Knew you would put 1 + 1 together. Appreciate the support.

Hi William

Welcome to the group.
What is the hull number? it will be staped near the top edge of the front towing eye.
It looks like you may have an LP2 model
Rob

I will look for it when I go there next as it is at work and I'm stuck at home with a broken arm. Are there any other places that a serial would be stamped into one of these hulls?

Lynn Eades 27-11-21 01:21

Only on the I.D. plate.

Congratulations and condolences.

Got in to see the carrier the other day and found some numbers on the tow hook.

Andrew Rowe 15-12-21 05:54

Hi William,
That is one of the lowest Hull numbers I have seen in New Zealand for the Local production Carriers for the LP2 and LP2A variants. Currently I have one with 41
in the wkshop at the moment, and one of my old ex-hull numbers was 176, out of around the 1200 odd that were built. This number is just Hull build number from the railways wkshops as I believe they were the main fabricators of the Hulls, and does not relate too much to "T " numbers or NZ numbers , other than this would have been issued with a lower number compared to others further down the build line.
Sometimes the "T" number is stamped on the top edge Face of the other tow eye, but not always. Cheers Andrew.

I've Just gone into Jeff Plowmans book. the LP2s and the early LP2As were issued a local number (like your one) as they were an order made by the N.Z. govmint.(Qty. 520) The later LP2As (second lot of approx. qty. 650) were ordered(contract No. NZ.1083) by the Eastern Group Supply Council and were allocated the T number range (T77594 to T78243)

Cheers guys for your responses. I will look for further marks as you describe the next time I'm in town.
