My new F60L

Hi team,
I've just taken delivery of my first Blitz: a 1945 F60L, I've named Bill.

Bill isn't quite roadworthy - and this is my first priority.

I've a very rusty windscreen frame top and LHS A-pillar. My plan is to swap the cab top (undoing the nine bolts behind the driver) and then also swapping out the windscreen frame in one piece. I've been soaking all the bolts in 50/50 ATF + acetone to help loosen them.

Any top tips on this plan before I begin?

Bill also has done new safety parts to be fitted to make him safer:
New horn
Passenger side wiper
New rear tail light and turn signals
A new speedo (I found a NOS Jeep one)
New RHS fuel tank sender

I'm also planning to swap out my mudguards. Are they tricky to remove/replace?

Al. Welcome to MLU. That is a fine looking Ford you have got there.

I guess you have been lurking for a while and now you have made the second best move you could make. The first was to obtain 'Bill', the second to mate up with MLU. You will get more help than you can use as we are all interested in your progress.

Where in Australia do you live. I would guess Victoria by the Club Plate rego on 'Bill'. That is an old CPS plate and unfortunately you probably will not be able to have it re-issued, unless the previous owner kept up the permit and you belong to the same vehicle club. On the positive side is that as 'Bill' was manufactured before 1st January 1949, you will not require a Road Worthy Certificate,'IF' the Club you belong to does not require one in their Statement of Purpose or By-Laws. 'Bill' will have to be signed off as safe to use on the road as ascertained by your Club Safety Officer and kept that way.

Regards Rick.

I'm in NSW - a Hawkesbury member. :)

Ch

The Victorian CH ( Classic Historic) rego scheme began in the early 1980's and the scheme has evolved over the years. I'd say that Bill was first CH registered in the mid to late 1980's . The VMVC had for a short while, special permission to register LHD vehicles under the CH scheme, the other car clubs were naturally jealous and lots of behind the scenes negotiating and politics was going on. The VMVC had a club member , in effect a insider with connections in very high places ..no names no pack drill.

So, a border raid has taken place. NSW Club Permit and RWC requirements are different to those in Victoria.

So, hot tips on the getting that windscreen frame out?

I'm a bit worried but planning the job this weekend.

The easiest way to swap the top safely is to remove the windscreen frames, then the roof and back section, then the pillars.
The pillars being at an inward angle are best handled alone.
I had to use an impact screw driver to separate the roof front from the pillar frame.

Click on my name and then statistics then all threads started by hrpearce.
then find the thread Robert pearce starts to restore. there you will see that I did take the lot off at once but it was very awkward that is why I changed methods the second time.
