Vc 2047 lp2

Good evening all, I've just pulled VC2047 from the shed after sitting there for a couple of years. I have all parts to complete this one. I did some serious hull work and had it blasted prior to storage but I still have a little more to do before it gets a good dose of primer and over coat. :)

Most of the smaller parts I have already sand blasted but I'll wait until I have all the small parts done so I can undercoat them all at once.

I have previously made just about all the generally missing bits, ( Boxes, covers, jack holders, gear change parts) and lots more so this carrier will have a mix of original parts and my repo's. I will keep you informed as to my progress :)
Colin.

Will it be finished by the end of the month? :thup2:

Sean Mayo 26-03-15 15:23

Hi Colin,

you make it look so easy, great work as always.

maple_leaf_eh 26-03-15 18:42

Did you find the reassembly instruction booklet too?

I have visions of some Swedish IKEA furniture pictogram with a little man and an Allen wrench, except he's an old Aussie cobber with a felt hat.

colin jones 26-03-15 21:54

Yes Robert, I'll have it finished by the end of (A) month :)
Thanks Sean, how's the M3 parts hunt going!
Terry, what can I say, that was funny!! :yappy: :yappy: :yappy:

Matt Stephenson 27-03-15 03:18

Hi Colin,

Impressive work, especially on the repro stuff. I'm envious of you and what you've achieved, and I look forward to following your progress.

Regards,

Matt.

Lynn Eades 27-03-15 07:34

Great stuff Colin. I love those rivets! She should be another rare one to add to your collection. Have we had finished pics of the truck?

Hi Matt, keep up the good work on your new carrier and welcome to the forum :thup2:
I'll have to post some pics of the Acco. I just didn't think that is very interesting for the watchers :rolleyes and say hello to Christine from the family. When are you coming back to Oz :kangaroo
I did achieve a bit today but had to stop early to make meatballs'n'tomato sauce for tea(Yuuuumm) :)
Most of the mounting blocks werepretty ordinary so I decided to remove all of them from the floor and replace with nice newies and also put some new sleel in the hole in the floor.

The piece is all welded in place and just waiting for the grinder. The firewall was all but gone at the bottom which is very common for these machines that have been left outside all those years but it's no good looking at it as they just don't repair themselves. :rolleyes (unfortunately)

All done and that's a bit of a hassle to do. Having the hull on it's side does make it easier though. I also had to machine up the steering pivot bracket as it also had the same fate as the mounting blocks. :confused

And welded in place. Now time to get tea.
:cheers:Colin.

WOW I love seeing your fabrication skills, keep the pictures coming :thup2:

I managed to find half a day today so I got all the mounting blocks welded in place and made a few more. The scrap steel photo's are just to say that it does pay to keep all sorts of pieces and not throw them away. They can all be resurrected in one form or another.

I also had to remake the foot rest and the centre plate support as the photo shows they were 95% gone. I do have another carrier to copy from! :)

My L/H engine support plate is also nearly gone but I had a piece of another one so I am reconstructing the rest of it. It is also quite pitted on the top so I'll fix that too.

colin jones 29-03-15 10:52

Some of the pitting went over half way so I welded, ground, welded, ground, welded and ground until I got a reasonable flat surface. I'll finish that part tomorrow! :salute:

I have finished the Engine/Radiator plate and cut out all the old one or what was left of it.

colin jones 31-03-15 08:40

All welded in and a lick of paint including the front floor area. I also decided to remove the old exhaust protectors and replicate them also.

colin jones 31-03-15 08:45

The carrier has also been turned up side down which makes the exhaust, diff and wheel stations much easier to fit. I made 2 new muffler heat shields and welded them into place so it's all ready for the exhaust to be fitted.

I did some hunting today to find some mufflers with the round ends and drew a blank everywhere I went so I thought I would have a try at making some.
I found some 40mm thick plate and welded a locating piece of steel in the centre and used for the chuck to hold on to. I machined it to the shape I wanted and that is my top part of the press tool. the bottom part was obviously a female part. I just roughly put them in the press with some 1.2 steel that I cut in a bit of a circle and to my surprise :eek:it actually did a neat compound pressing and to the size I need so now I can go ahead and make the mufflers.
Happy Chappy :) :)

Have not been able to get much done in the last few days but found a bit of time today. I rolled a couple of tubes and prepped the ends and baffles ready for assembly.

colin jones 08-04-15 10:35

I bent my exhaust parts and welded in place. Made my securing brackets and still have the little ones to do then weld them to the muffler tubes then that's about it for the exhaust. :)
Colin.

jack neville 08-04-15 13:23

Nice work Colin. Who knows what you will turn out next!

colin jones 08-04-15 13:53

:) Perhaps sides for a Marmon Herrington
