Hi all, this is another bit of our history to be back on track:wacko: VR 2225 nice hull with an excellent floor. Pulled the diff apart and it was a bit ordinary inside so I used another half I had so now it's like new.
If I put too many pics on, just let me know.

As my supply of diff saddle clamps have diminished I need to make a couple. I started with a solid piece 6"x 2 1/2 then made a big mess on the floor with a lot of swarf.

After I lathed the size I wanted, I cut it in halves to give me the 2 I needed

A bit of welding, then on the mill to face it to something like the original.

Hi Colin

Please keep the threads going with many many pictures. It is from those and your explainations that us novices learn what the restoration of a vehicle is all about. I follow your work with great interest and look forward to the next installments. :teach:

Cheers

Why not in the Sergeant's Mess? Or if you want to talk about your vehicles, there are appropriate areas for those too.

Painted the diff and prept for installation. Used my diesel turning machine for working underneath. It is a bit of a tight squeeze in the door way.

Underside painted. For those doing their first one there's a couple of pics showing inside the drum and where the rear brake clevis bracket should be to get max pull.

Really nice work Colin you are the master of these little machines you should be happy with your progress . For someone like me who is new to carriers , how is the Pioneer plate attach to the rear end ? Dale

charlie fitton 24-02-13 19:10

Sure....

make us all look bad...see how , in pic 2 and 3 (of post 15), he puts tools away AS he works...

colin jones 24-02-13 21:11

:yappy: :yappy: :yappy:Charlie,I have'nt put my tools away they're just in a pile out of the camera view  Hi Dale, the pioneer plate is secured by a series of bolts along the top where the tow tongue is and 2 bolts either side at the bottom through a small angle.
Acually, I do stop every now and then and put my tools away and blow all the dust away with my compressor, otherwise it's just so frustrating when you put something down then all of a sudden, the shed Gremlin hides it. I'm sure "Everone" has a clean shed with everything in its place. :drunk:

hi Colin,
Mine is not exactly clean, but always put everything away at night, so that it is in the right place next morning. That way you tend to know if something is missing and it can be narrowed down to when last used.

Very impressed with your work, you must enjoy it.

Richard

Hi all, Richard I do enjoy doing this sort of work. Sorry for the lack of pics lately but one of my kids had my camera and just seemed to forget where they used it. All good now I got it back.
Front idler wheels on.
Cross shaft in.
Cam assembly refurbed and installed.
Single wheel stations refurbed and ready for installation.
Springs for above ready for assembly.

Hi all, fitting the single wheel stations and assembly of the springs. Having a spring compressor eliminated the possibility of death or serious injury as these are under immense pressure during assembly. I have done it before without a compressor but it's scary.

And in. :coffee Looking at a few photo's looks like a half hour job but this is all day from 7.30 this morning. But I'm sure we all know there's no such thing as a 5 minute job. :)

Hi all, sorry about the lack of pics but just have'nt been able to post them. Anyway, all wheels on and ready for tracks.

Certainly helps to be able to work on these machines upside down. I would say these tracks have done no miles at all.

colin jones 08-03-13 10:41

I have made a small bracket to tension the tracks with the porta power and it works very effectively.
