Hi Tony - I should have expected you would have covered that. However it is a trap for a lot of new players. Most of the Ford speedometers I refurbish have this fault and one must be very careful as the two cogs are riveted through the housing. Too much force will loosen this rivet. Anyway enough egg sucking, hopefully these last posts will assist someone refurbishing their own speedometer.

But unfortunately not very noticable... I have poured hours into the truck since the shed came down to a habitable temperature in Mid February.

Looking at it though - I wonder what all the hours achieved sometimes...

Still - got it to Anzac Day at Batemans Bay again but only just. Had some terrific support again from the Yass boys and girls in particular Max and Ashley Wilson.

Not to mention Andy Fulton from Hall...amazing work Andy - didnt get to tie it all together for Anzac Day but it will be ready for next year.

Had my Grandfather in the passenger seat as always and this year I had the honour of a younger Navy bloke (veteran of both gulf wars and more recent conflicts) and a bloke who was a Nasho from the 50's ride on the back.

Finally fitted the wheel arch boxes which made good seating

Attendance keeps growing every year at both services which is great to see.

Not long after this photo was taken. He (very aggressively) tore the leg off a chicken...

The chicken was carefully cooked under sterile conditions in accordance NSW health regulations and served with warmed cream....

Truck is looking good Tony, your long hours on it are noticeable. :smoker:

Have finally managed to find some sides, get them repaired by Andy Fulton and have started the process of fitting them to the truck.

Again I have been given some invaluable help from John Mackie.

Thanks H for the lend of the trailer and Bruce for the pallets. These projects dont get done without help from everyone.

Great Work, how is the truck driving now that you have a some miles on it? The Australian drop side body sure added versatility to the truck so much easier to load than the standard cargo bodies what surprises me is how long it was before this was adopted by other countries.

I'm really curious how warm does the cab get on the Ford version?

For some reason your pictures are coming out very small and when enlarged get fuzzy fast.

any chance you can resubmit without resizing so much.... I must be getting old and need to enlarge full screen to really take in the details. I am also interested in the info requested by Phil....... not many cab 11/12 being driven on the road these days.

Phil, the cab does get very hot - good with the windscreen up but being such a heavy thing (the windscreen) it is hard on the supports which hold it in place. I can see why the 13 went to the split windscreen.

The truck seems to be very tolerant of warm temps to a point.... anything under about 30 degrees celsius (outside air temp)... after that, it gets bloody hot. How does the Chevy go?

I may have stumbled across some very good stuff to put on the engine covers - more on that when I get to it (could be a few months).

Alex, with regard to tailgate, watch this space...

Question.... Does anyone have any photos of the drop side hinge in front of the wheel arch box - would like to know if it is welded to the box or the tray? It is in a cow of a position...

Now that I can see the details I have questions.

On each drop isde the first and last panel have a pipe near the top end...... is that used as a leg to keep the drop side open as an extension of the box floor??

Tony, this one is on a Cab 13 F60L but may give some clues. Different height wheel arch but presumably same construction. Not the best pics I'm afraid but can take more if needed.

To the best of my knowledge Bob that's what they are there for. Interesting to note they are not on most drop side bodies I have seen.

Somewhere on this forum there is an example and even shows the timber poles that were issued and where they were stored on the truck.

Tires are ex-army unimog, 18 ply rating and good on the road if your wheel alignment is OK.

Thats what I was looking for Tony, it appears they are welded to the wheel arch box not the tray as well... makes sense if they made the box to be removable.

I think it is the workshop tray that has the legs to turn the sides into bench space.

I think you're right Robert, but the telltale marks and bolt holes may indicate another use.

I'm not sure, but it may have been a fold down bench seat the length of the side.

People may be wondering why this truck has full steel body?

This body was fitted to this truck in 1944 as its original configuration was as a 2 pounder anti tank portee.

In answer to your question earlier Alex - tail gate has been obtained from Ashley Wilson at Yass and repaired by Andy Fulton. Many thanks to both of you lads.

Photo's also show that Clevo seems to find his new Kennel quite acceptable.

Gday Shane,

The two pounder body is a totally different body altogether, including the floor.

Back of this truck would have been stripped to the chassis and then this back (including tray floor) was then fitted.

Took the old girl to another local show after being invited to go.

Back is not finished yet. Sides needed a bit of heating in places and tailgate is presenting a few challenges as well.

Anyhoo, hinges are back on the rear for the first time in about 50 years. So I took a couple of quick crappy photo's.

Thats right Bob, shortened fuel tank basically. Not hooked up at the moment had a lot of crap inside the tank free itself up over a couple of years.
It finally let me know it blocked the line when it spewed coolant all over the front of the motor and conked out going up a hill.

No damage done but considerable anxiety caused at the time.

Hi Tony

If I am not mistaken those tanks have soldered ends..... you might be able to take one end apart, cleanup the inside.... and resolder. Or a rad shop could do it for you.....

I would be tempted to sit the tank on its side in a large pan with one inch of cold water and apply heat to the upper side....water should keep the heat from loosening the other end. A coating of fuel tank sealer paint on the inside when reassembled would seal any pin holes..
