Thats great Kevin, Wednesday morning is best ( daughts birthday so i have to keep the afternoon clear). "oh thats a shame your little lad wont be comming", the chickens need chasing !! " i can not knock his keen work attitude, you need to let him rebuild one of your carriers !!! that will keep him busy - how old is he 5????

kevin powles 10-12-11 15:19

hi, will be over wednesday, aim for 09:30. Sasha is 4 and i am sure as he gets older he will carry on with the carrier hobby, but for now carriers are out of bounds for him, 'tank hunter' is named 'Alexander' after him.

Those waiting for downpipes, hope to finish them before Christmas!.

see u wednesday, kev.

RichardT10829 11-12-11 00:37

We want video's we want video's :)

shaun 14-12-11 21:14

Kevin came over today .so now the down pipes are fitted. Run the engine up to temp and all is well, no leaks or drips. Switched off and after a few checks i sat myself in the drivers seat , pressed the start button, engine starts, clutch down , in gear and away i go - 1 foot forward and 1 foot back that will do for its first move under its own power in 60 years.

Ben 14-12-11 21:34

Well done, I make that a week ahead of schedule!

Looking forward to seeing her again

Ben

Jordan Baker 15-12-11 16:44

Sounds great.

Stew Robertson 15-12-11 22:43

Looks good Shaun the only complaint is the colour of the engine and fan.The rpm you are idling at is also to high
Don"t take it the wrong way I am very opinionated when it comes to details.
Stew

shaun 15-12-11 23:18

Thanks for the coments folks, Stew it is running fast , i had wound the tickover up to get the engine warmed up. still a lot of setting up to do. As to the fan colour, it was red all the way down to the base colour, so red it is. My MK2 has a green fan !

kevin powles 20-12-11 20:21

Shaun, Good Luck for tomorrow...........hope all go's well. Looking forward to the video, make it a long one!.

Morning Gordon,

Patience mate - The wagon is all ready (not finshed but good enough for a road test) . Rick (Eddy 8 ball) will be here about mid day and the rain will have stopped, So im aiming for a 13.00hrs run around the block.Full report later !

Thanks to all for your good wishes etc , i am amazed at the interest shown and follower of this project.

RichardT10829 21-12-11 11:01

good lengthy video and loads of pics please Shaun :)

gordon 21-12-11 12:50

Thinking caps on chaps ....

Shaun's carrier is going to need a name ( or a nickname )

What can we come up with for a Carrier that went from grave to cradle in exactly twelve months?

Lazarus would be a bit downbeat - who has something better? Solstice maybe, since it started and finished on the winter Solstice?

The morning started with Rick traveling 4 hours to assist with the roll out ( thanks Rick good effort !!) well a year to the day and the old wagon flew ! The first trip went ok, then a few adjustments later and another run and goes very well, we covered just over 2 miles, no over heating or major leaks so all is well. I think the video says it all so enjoy ! sorry for the shakey video ( to much excitment for all concerned ). By the way im the good looking one in the green wooly hat - Rick has the blue one ! Both Ex REME hence the sign on the front of the carrier .

Yes Gordon a name is needed , something light and fluffy like all good British AFVs

Ben 21-12-11 21:48

Well done, sorry I couldn't be there, hope to see it soon.

There's probably a joke in there somewhere, what with the time of year, new born (carrier) and wise men.

All the best, Ben

Any time Ben, i was hoping to get your way before christmas but it has not happened - i dont know to much about wise men !!! ha ha

Here are a few more images from today

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NaqKC0ndWGw

I know the last one is not a carrier but Rich was reminicing over equipment he came across in the Gulf war. I think we have to keep an eye on him or well be collecting Russian kit before we know it !

kevin powles 21-12-11 22:44

Well Done.

Shaun, Thats Great, What a transformation from when you found her on this day last year, worth the hard graft, another carrier saved for future generations to admire and remember 'good old british engineering'......They dont make em like that anymore!.

I must say that rick looks less stessed than when i saw him last ..........that carrier must be behaving itsself!

What you going to call her, how about 'Hedge Jumper'.

Merry Christmas .

Kevin.

eddy8men 21-12-11 22:58

nice one shaun, i had a really enjoyable day and came away with a few freebies to boot :thup2:. it was definately worth the trip down to your gaff and i'd like to say thanks for taking the time to show me round the collection, much appreciated.
i reckon i definately needed a day like today to get me fired up again to tackle the jobs on my carrier, (i want to get it on the road asap) :D

cheers

rick

ps. iou a beer

gordon 22-12-11 08:21

Excellent

Doesn't get better than that, the smiles said it all.

Noisy little soul on the video though, I expect when the panelling is all there it'll be a fraction quieter, or are they always that loud?

Gordon

RichardT10829 22-12-11 13:45

Gordon...... yes ! when your in the drivers seat you cant hear anything over the fan whirring around behind the radiator
