Mike, it's a bit under the 1 1/8" but all plumbers pipe must be the same to take the 3/4" national pipe thread.
1" tubing is 1" outside diameter but the hole isn't 3/4".

OK interesting. We use BSP threads here for plumbing pipes . The modern , present day 3/4 plumbers pipe is maybe a bit narrower in the OD , compared to the older pipe ?

Not sure what National pipe thread is ? Sounds like its a Nth American standard

found this , the 3\4 NPT outside diam. is around 1.050 " or 26 mm

NPT is a tapered thread so it tightens without hitting anything.
You could probably use British standard pipe. The mm difference in diameter wouldn't be noticeable.
