I pulled the fuel pump out of the blitz on Wednesday only to discover I could have fixed it in place. The problem was the hinge pin had worked out of place :bang:

Should have called this thread "the never ending story"

Well I have more work to do, today I was given a left side fuel tank for the blitz so more cleaning and painting required. I now also have to find a fuel cap for sale to complete the tank.

Fuel cap

I think I may have a spare one for you Robert.

I had half an hour to fill in so I started to get the restoration bug satisfied again

Blew the cobwebbs out of the cab with the leaf blower and drove to Adelong for a meeting today. It was great to be on the road again, unfortunately I left the camera at home :bang:

Rego check tomorrow so service today. I finally took the opertunity to fit a thermostat to the blitz today and after a 20Km test run found no water leaks and the engine ran between 70 and 80 deg c. so I am happy.

After the run to test the thermostat I changed the oil, greased, ajusted the brakes, toped up the brake fluid and washed the cab. There was a little bit of daylight left so I cleaned up another part and painted it. While I had the spray can out I touched up a fiew spots on the cab also.

I filled in a wet morning by cleaning up the roof hatch latch housing and painting it. Now I have to design and make the internals and install them.

Today I used the angle grinders to make the tongue of the catch out of a piece of 16mm key. I still have to make the handle and cut the grove for the handle to pass through the tongue.
Can anyone tell me if the spring is let into the tongue or just droprd into the gap?

I had to ajust the hatch catch as the toung didn't get enough grip to stay shut on rough roads. While I was in the shed another small part was painted and put in the dash.

The sholder exercises are going well so today I tried some sanding and painting. Now the last tank bracket is painted. With Sam's help I cut a template for the bolt holes for the big angles that suport the tool box. I have drilled pilot holes and hope to feel fit enough to drill them out in the next couple of days.

Both tanks I have for my blitz are the same size but the filler necks are different distances from the front edge and onr has the bracing on top and the other underneath. I can get both tanks to fit just wondering why the difference. :confused

Looks like you might have 1 Ford tank and 1 Chev tank

The Chev tanks I have are the larger spacing with the round cut away fuel sender

The Ford ones I have are 6 inch spacing with below bracing and should have round flatter type fuel sender

Hi AJ both senders are Chev.

Just had a look at my trucks
Learn something new every day
On the Chevs they have a mixture of bracing on top and below with the larger spacing on the C15A and sigvan and a 2 inch spacing and below brace on the C60L, I am assuming it is to allow for spare tyre removal without wiping out the filler
The Ford tanks I have all seem to have 6 inch spacing with below brace

SO no idea :confused
Probably a model difference thing

Sam helped me put the last fuel tank bracket on today.
I sat the tank on to test fit and discovered that the strap marks on the tank are further apart than my brackets. I also noticed the front bracket was bent back so Sam used a crowbar to bend it back into place.

I had Sam do some sanding today when the vibrations got too much for me.
The previous painting wasn't to neat I'll have to try harder at being messy to match it.
Can anyone tell me why BN is stamped into the support stay?

Perhaps the initials of the OEM who built them?

Hi Keith do you know where this tank came from originally given the wider bracket spacing and the fuel pipe heading straight toeards the chassis?

Keith Webb 25-04-13 06:00

Fuel tanks

No, sorry Robert I don't haven an answer for that one... I thought it may have been Dodge T110 but although similar it seems to have a wider filler.

hrpearce 13-05-13 22:35

Thanks to Mike C's answer in Tim's thread I now know my blitz turnes 70 this year.

The angles are cut and painted, my hand isn't as steady as it used to be so it is a bit rough.
I had a bit of good luck today while looking for bolts to mount the angles I found two pins to mount the petrol tank straps to the top of the bracket.

Ganmain Tony 21-05-13 12:24

Nice..

Looking great Robert. Cant wait to see a few pictures of the old girl with both fuel tanks on... :thup2:
