Ice

We have plenty of ice over west aussie at the moment. We are using it to keep the beer from evaporating in the esky! It is a lovely comfortable +42C in Moonyoonooka at the moment. and we might have a bit of lightning in an hour or so.   :drunk:

Daniel Treasure 01-02-09 06:19

Barry Churcher 01-02-09 18:11

Good Luck in Haiti Clive. Must be nice going from -30 to + 35. Don't get too used to the wearher there.

cletrac (RIP) 04-02-09 23:51

It's a few degrees above the freezing mark today and I'll take that any day over that 40+ C stuff.

Milder here today and tomorrow (although humid) but another 43C stinker Saturday hopefully followed by a couple of days with rain.

aj.lec 06-02-09 10:03

44c today and still 42c at 7.45pm
predicting 47c at broken hill for sunday
   playground
getting a rough idea how the after life will end up

David_Hayward (RIP) 06-02-09 11:27

Wow!

It's raining here so above freezing.

The hottest it has ever been here in the UK is 101 F, and the hottest I know about was one July at the RAF Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford one July when it was a baking 94. When I and a G/F were on a beach in Formentera, Balearic Islands of Spain, Med., it was once 108 F. That would be early 1980s...and since then it has snowed on the islands in winter!

I gather that in Scotland it has been up to 15 C in January, and down to -27 C, the lowest British temp.

David_Hayward (RIP) 06-02-09 11:33

Agh!

It's now sleeting and snowing!

Keith Webb 06-02-09 11:33

By those measurements

We're heading for a top of 111F in Melbourne tomorrow, and being a Saturday I'll be out working on Chris' blitz. In parts of outback Aust it gets into the 50s C, or more than 122 or so F. But who's boasting!

You bugger! I was out early yesterday morning and the wind chill was something close to -30C... and it stayed that way for much of the damned day! I'd kill for hot-and-dry right about now!!!

Keith Webb 06-02-09 19:27

Combining

So if we remove your wind chill factor and combine we'd wind up with something in the 20s, which is what we're expecting for the next few days from Sunday.

David_Hayward (RIP) 06-02-09 19:51

Tomorrow

I just pray that I can drive my daughter 21 miles to work tomorow at 05.00 with projected ice on the roads.

cletrac (RIP) 06-02-09 20:32

It's easy to drive on icy roads. Just don't try to do any sudden movements that will start you skidding. I've driven hundreds of thousands of miles on ice or snow with no problems unless the snow gets too deep and you have to shovel your way through.

Jim Price 07-02-09 00:44

There are some of us who only deal with shoveling heat...... What is this thing called "snow"?

Regards,
Jim

I remember when you last got on a plane in -22c and got off the plane in 30c. I guess that a -30c to plus 47c change WOULD kill you.

There's something going for the acclimatizing benefits of travel by ship, rather than a jet plane that can have you across several timezones, opposite seasons and hanging upside-down in one quick trip!

Max Hedges 07-02-09 03:01

Yass yesterday 41 c and last night was down to 30c at 11pm

we are a little bit hot working in the shed on the blitz..... you should see Tony sweating, he looks a mess!!
Max

Ryan 07-02-09 05:05

Currently 46.9 in Geelong!
And strong northerly winds.

Seriously, anyone caught lighting fires in this country should be :no4:

Keith Webb 07-02-09 05:31

Mid 40s here

Melbourne is somewhere around 45.4 currently. We were just out in the car with the temp consistently hovering between 48 and 49.5.

Might switch to light jobs on the blitz until things cool down - rather too hot and windy to paint.

The air is full of dust and smoke from the fires, and we have a strong Northerly wind.

This is the current fire situation:

Hottest day on record

Wondering what a F15 looks like on the hottest day it's ever likely to experience?

There's a bushfire in the vicinity, it's almost 46 at the nearest weather station and here are the pics - the thermometer pic was taken before it exploded.

Well it didn't really - we took it inside before that happened but the temp was what it had been reading in the shade here.

cliff 07-02-09 06:07

yes it's a bugger them only making thermometers up to 50C isn't it? :D

Definately glad i am not down Victoria and South Australia way at the moment
High temps ,high winds always spells trouble for bushfires
Hopefully the predicted cooler change comes through sooner rather than later

Bad news about the family property plushy -hopefully you didnt lose property or stock

Not as bad as the southern states here temps are up to 44c in the shade but very little wind and very little humidity
Haven't even attempted going in to the shed today apart from getting the car out to take the kids to swimming lessons and having a dip myself

Here is a chev temp gauge for Keith (always run cooler than a ford) :D

Keefy are you sure that isn't just the radiant heat from the sidevalve's radiator?

Keith Webb 07-02-09 08:22

Could be...

Very saddening news through tonight
The bushfires have claimed 14 peoples lives so far
To make it even worse some of the major fires are suspected to be deliberately lit -Truely a case to bring back capital punishment :no4:

Our thoughts and prayers go out to those friends , families , dedicated firepersons and volunteers affected by the bushfires
I am sure we all hope no one else will be lost or injured

aj.lec 09-02-09 07:23

42c again today
smoke haze rolled in about 10am .not real sure if it is from victorian fires or another closer one
