Rain Here As Well

Hi all
Tanks are full and it is still raining. I'm thinking of going into boat building and am currently researching Church records as I heard a guy before built a big boat because of the rain.

Just make sure it has a heater as it's bl00dy cold up here in Gympie.

Can't you poor buggers in New South Wales keep it down there please :D

now in all seriousness I feel real sorry for them at the moment because they have copped it real bad in the last week or so and today it is reported that 100 plus KPH winds are blowing the place away. :(

Bob,
Just how big is a cubit anyways?
Make it big enough to load up 2x F15's, 2xF15a's, 2xF60s....

Cubit Trivia

Howard
A cubit is approximately 18" or 45.72cms. Originally is was the length of the forearm from the elbow to the tip of the middle finger. So if you elbow all your trucks you should be able to work out your storage dimensions. Ex. Latin, cubitum - the elbow.

Well, I'll give away one half of the answer just to prove I'm not boasting, but the "Lithgow Inch" = 0.9996 of an Imperial Inch. Now, just waiting to see if Bob can provide the other half of the answer? ;)

(PS: Apologies to Cliff and other Qld'ers, I understand Toowoomba recorded -9deg the other night, which would have to be a record for Qld?)

Tony,

Obviously something to do with the armaments factory at Lithgow, my guess is that due to the higher altitude and colder, when measured in hotter climes, it becomes 1.000 Imperial Inch
:D :p

Right so far, but.... No, sorry Richard, it has more to do with with lax British engineering practices put under the harsh light of North American precision tolerances. Poor Lithgow gets stuck in the middle of it all!

PPS 21-06-07 16:53

Re:- Cubit, etc.

Could the "Lithgow Inch" have anything to do with the "Enfield Inch" and the production at a certain weapons establishment?

Paul.

Tony Smith 21-06-07 18:05

Yes, much the same thing, although it was discovered by Lithgow. How? Why?

PPS 21-06-07 19:29

Re:- Cubit, etc.

Could it be the fact that weapons being made at the SAF in Lithgow were being made to Enfield drawings, and these used an inch that was of a different standard to the Imperial, and the British, inch at that time.

This led to problems when they were checked with measuring equipment in the U.S.A. and elsewhere.

I also believe that it was the Canadian inch that eventually became the "standard" in the end.

Paul.

... we've just had a terrible rain storm this morning. Worst since ages. Over 30 litres of water in one hour! Not just a few mml's.... It started around 9am, dark like at night, rained for only about 30 mins. Some impressions:

Yes it was a record Tony and another record was broken a couple of days ago for the lowest maximum daytime temp in Gympie since records began of 13C at 3pm.

It has since warmed up a bit now that the wind has died down a bit and we have returned to our blue sunny skies during the day. I was glad to see the shortest day of the year pass as well.

Sounds like a Melbourne winter day at 13C top temperature.

Tony Smith 22-06-07 05:44

Well, climate change has just gone TOO FAR if Gympie can't crack 13deg!

Queensland! Beautiful one day, lukewarm the next.

CUBITS

Some of you may know of the two great pillars said to have been at the entrance to King Solomons Temple. They were 17 and a half cubits tall circumference 12 and diameter 4. The were made of molten brass and being hollow were 4 inches or a hands breadth in thichness. thats a lot of brass. Think of the scrap value today.

Hi Tony
I've been away on another adventure, yet to be posted, and missed answering your question. Obviously I would have posted the replies that have already been made, but that is not necessary now. My only other comment is, have you tried Viagra?
