I'm sure that many of you will have seen this picture which has appeared in several books on D Day.
On the left is a trailer which seems to be loaded with either spare faschines or rolls of trackway (Presumably RE) Any guesses as to the trailer type and the towing vehicle?

The trailer looks to be a low bed plant trailer and it is being towed by crawler tractor, being British beach, I would have to guess it to be a CAT D7, you can just make out the winch and rope.

There were two of these outfits that Pearson's had post-war, AFS Takoradoi Harbour No. 1 and No. 2. I assume that these were acquisitions for rebuild, and used a spare CMP rear axle (with diff in both cases).

that show Leyland Beaver rigid and tractor units with what appeared to me to be some form of boat or log holding device. These were rebuilt around 1947-8 and probably sent out to the Middle East for oil field work. I assume that they are wartime contracts, but have no idea what the rear protrusions are for.

David I think they were timber jinkers for hauling logs.

Hello All,

In need of help and assistance please..

I am looking for information on the Australian Version of the 8 Ton, Six Wheeled, Recovery Trailer.

The trailer itself is (I assume) the Australian Version of the Cranes 7.5 Ton Recovery Trailer.

I'm chasing anything - information, manuals, photographs, manufacturers, details, etc.etc. for the Australain Version, but would also like as much information on the Cranes 7.5 Ton Recovery Trailer to help me fill in the pieces of the Australian 8 Ton version.

I have only been able to find a couple of photographs (one from this forum and one from the Austalian War Memorial, but have had no further success).

Any help and assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Interesting photo of the C60L Cab12. Seems that they have either skidded and jack-knifed or like me, having trouble backing a dog trailer with out locking the turntable. I think its the first one by the skidmarks, there was too much weight on behind and it all got away.

I have a 8 ton Fruehauf Trailer it has a goose neck and a jeep under it as it was towed by a truck the wood on the deck shows track pad marks .It probably hauled carriers and small cats .

Another laugh : It even has beaver tails on the back .

That photo has done the rounds over the years. Shows the tractors and ZPI (Zone Position Indicator ) units of the Canadian built GL III(c) AA gunlaying radar. Part of the consignment of 83 convoys purchased by the Australian Govt during WW II. Have any of these and the other APF (Accurate Position Finder ) units survived the passage of time in Australia ?

Interesting selection, the 7 1/2 ton trailer fitted with CMP hubs and modified beam axle mounting.......were these manufactured abroad, based on the Uk pattern 7 1/2 tonner.

The first trailer featured, looks to be based on the Taskers "tilting" trailer.....the second series of photo's featuring the four wheeled version, again are the outside the UK.......I have a few photographs of the "Taskers" trailer, mostly inter war and early war.

You wouldn't happen to have anything on the 5 ton trailer......I only have two photgraphs of it......it has a series of smaller diameter wheels on bogies, and a steerable front axle with two larger wheels......a similar arrangement to the 7 1/2 ton trailer.
