Hazard report

It also appears to be the only Ford flathead V6 around too.

I thought the hazard report interesting...

Anyone need a solidly built Gantry Crane?

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/gantry-/1...item19e038af5c

Or maybe you'd just want it for the wheels?

white scout car remains?

Used by a general in the war reads the description. An odd colour too. Could this be a very rare vehicle?

Hi Ryan,
I tried to call on numerous occasions and left messages so I dont know if it sold straight away or what the story is. I could do with the front diff and a couple of split rims if any one knows of other parts please let me know.. Thanks.

Regards,
Brett Nicholls.

Oh no! it's Tony's matching trailer, too!

Nah, it's another 1945 GMH No4 painted desert colours.:

Note that it has the in-service hub spacers to fit Land Rover wheels when these trailers were still in service when the Series 2 was introduced. Interestingly, it has found a pair of Austin Champ wheels.

Richard Coutts-Smith 07-10-13 12:43

Tony (or anyonelse for that matter),
any idea what the cleats on the Trailer rims in the post above would be for?
Rich.

motto 07-10-13 18:59

Apologies in advance

The answer would be obvious had this been a Ben Hur trailer.
They would be for slashing an opponents tyres in a chariot race!
Other than that they would have to be for barring the wheel and I don't know how successful that would be. They probably fall into the same category as the recently discussed unstuckers. Pretty useless.

You see these cleats on field gun wheels sometimes, to put ropes around to manouver them.

Richard Coutts-Smith 08-10-13 11:16

Thanks David and Richard for your thoughts. I would have thought artillery, but what artillery ever had Champ rims?
I contacted some of the Champ owners brain trust and one long time Champ owner in the UK has a set of these, they were used (In Germany at least ) for the fitting of army issue wheel chains on the Champ.
Trailer's sold anyway!
Rich.

Tony Smith 08-10-13 15:03

They are off a 120mm MOBAT anti-tank RCL, not Champ.

(Apologises for poor eyesight in not spotting them sooner, thanks Richard!)

Richard Coutts-Smith 08-10-13 21:22

Thanks Tony, I think that would be it.
Doubt that there would be many sets of them in Australia.
Rich.

I found a set of those wheels a few years ago and used them to make a tanden trailer. I always thought they were Land Rover wheels. I ground the cleats off. Are they the same as Land Rover and Champ rims? I am still looking for another one as the spare. They fit Land Rover hubs.

Richard Coutts-Smith 03-11-13 09:53

Jack,
I am sure that the MOBAT wheel will be identical to a Champ apart from the lugs. The stud pattern is the same as Land Rover, but the Champ wheel has a greater off set and is of course a two piece combat rim. Good Champ rims are getting harder to find, easier to stick with a Landy one as a spare.
Rich.

Does not appear to have had much done to it in the intervening years. Unfortunatley this is one vehicle that can not be stored outside.

Heads Up - Ex-AAMME vehicles at Auction

A number of vehicles from the collection of the Australian Army Museum of Military Engineering (SME Museum) Steele Barracks Moorebank, NSW are up for auction on Graysonline.

http://www.graysonline.com/sale/5009...pment?spr=true

The M816 wrecker needs mechanical work so is currently non-operational.

The Inter F5 "twin Boom" wrecker is fully operational.

Both vehicles are surplus to need as they have other examples in the collection and no space to hold them with the impending move to the new Holsworthy Museum site.
