A 12 Cab!

Nice roof! :D

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1942-Fla...item2aa5676427

Wonder if that number on the side is original?

Ken Smith 06-04-18 08:29

Looks like an interesting truck , possibly loaned to U.S. Army. Returned to Australian Army worn out.
Mike C might comment on what the notations mean.
Ken

Tony Smith 06-04-18 09:14

What notations are you referring to, Ken?

This truck has been for sale for some years, with the price slowly falling. Seems to be getting close to good value now.

Ken Smith 06-04-18 11:36

The numbers and letters in the left hand page are what I am referring to.
The USA I assume means US Army and the COD at the RH end of the line would usually mean cash on delivery, but if they gave the trucks back, in theory there would be no payment. I put my glasses on and I see there is possibly a date 30.03.42 .
I thought the price would be okay for a spares truck. Plus another $600.00 to get it to my place.
Ken

Ken Smith 06-04-18 12:12

The other thing I just noticed was that there are UK order 907 and UK order 889 trucks and when you get over to ARN 51720 my truck, I see that they mix the 2 orders together.

ARN 51567 a USA truck and 2/107 AGT company veteran wasn't sold off until 16/5/56.

Cab 12 in earlier post No. 1051 is now free! Closer in value now than the previous EBay starting price. Any auto electricians out there who also like MV's?

Ken,

COD = Central Ordnance Depot, ie issued from Bandiana.

A 'G52' is an issue form, and the form number for this issue was 178, issued on 30 March 1942.

A copy of the form would have wend its way through to the Reverse Lend Lease people for adding the financial amount to the RLL account, and later, once the vehicle was returned, another form would have, in theory, wend its way to the RLL account's people to credit the reduced/used value to the other side of the account ledger.

Mike

Ken Smith 02-05-18 10:18

Thanks Mike C, I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge, and confirming the truck went to Reverse Lend Lease.
Your explanation has added another dimension to the old trucks life, that is having waited at Bandiana some time in early 1942 for assignment to a unit, in this case the U.S. Army.
It would be nice to have it in the collection for that reason alone, I hope it hasn't survived 78 years to end up at the scrap metal yard.

That ought to cover his E-bay fees!

No connection to the vendor, but there's a Cab 12 roof in Victoria:

Very good score Robert! Our troops had to out up with the one size fits all Australian publication which covered all the models we had here, same thing was done with the Ford handbooks.

Tony Smith 18-04-20 14:18

This guy sounds like he's had a hard time. Someone give him a break. Actually looks like it might be a good truck, too.

Hi Tony.

Hard to tell, but is that part of a winch cable guide system tucked under the left rear corner of the chassis. Two horizontal discs with a bit of cable hanging out between them? Can’t see anything on the front bumper though.

David

Grant Bowker 18-04-20 17:31

It certainly looks like it. I don't see cable guides along the left frame rail either but they sometimes get ripped off...

Yes it is fitted with a winch. A bloke came to look at the 1940 Cab 11 Ford F30S I have for sale, last Friday and was going to look at this one on Gumtree on Saturday. Seems he is looking for a Cab 11/12 to modify into a 'who knows what' with a big Cummins engine etc.

I quickly told him that my F30S was not for sale as he was going to cut and modify it. My F30S is still for sale. Now at $3,750. as I need it gone.

I was recently looking to buy, restore and I would like to think to save and use a CMP from NSW. It has sat in the same place for decades, unused, out in the weather. What price would the vendor reasonably expect to get for it? He says he wants $15k!!

Appreciate some buyers are difficult and time wasters, but if some potential sellers think they are so valuable, then why would they not have looked after them a bit better and given them a better life, or give them a better life by moving them on to a user, history preserver, repairer/sympathetic restorer? Leaving them under a tree long term is not a great way to look after them!!

David Dunlop 21-04-20 00:27

Hello Paul.

Selling the stuff is never an option with that type of bloke, and they turn up everywhere, hanging on to almost anything imaginable. It is not about money but rather the status attained by ownership and having people interested in it. It will very likely languish untouched and unmoved until he croaks and the family will have it off to the first scrappie they can find to haul it away.
