The first axle of the F60H is connected, an other important thing for us is,
the pre-1942 model number of this truck: C010QF !

Lots of heavy metal!

Nice job guys.......

Did you take it apart to overhaul/insoect or just cleaned it up...???

On looking back at some of the frame picture it seems that both the front and rear driven axle are GM.....???? but it is a Ford.

Pardon my ignorance I am trying to learn.... are all FORD F60 built with GM axles......?? do you know if it has the complex larger R-Zeppa inner U joint..?

Dirk... would it be possible to post a close up of the front axle..... curious to see the reenforcement ribs and it seems the front cover is welded in place and not bolted.....?

Thanks for your help

Bob Carriere 23-02-08 05:32

Found part of my answer.....

By scrolling backward I found a dirty and a clean picture of the front axle.

So I still have this nagging question..... the front axle looks very similar the the heavy duty cast GM axle I have seen on CGT and some Ford gun tractor and even on some odd ball F15a and C15a......

Who made that axle..... Ford or GM......?

The one pictured in this thread looks as if the flange that attaches the eggcup is also small like a C15a......

Reminds me of the two C60 we saw at Angus' yard that were Aussie contracts (Sept 44) but built with C15a small flange and with 16 inch tires.....Duh!!!!

I wont sleep tonite!!!!!!

GM front axles

There were a number of cab 11 Fords built with GM front axles due to the Ford version not being available initially.

Hi Bob, after more than 60 years it is maybe better to take the whole thing apart and give er some new bearings, seals etc.
I had to replace one gear, it was the bottom one that sat under water
!

You are right about the axles, if you come to Barry's place one day you will see the same axle as we have underneath his CGT, in the Ford books it is mentioned as GM design axle. With cast front cover

I just put the transfer case ( funny thing was that it carried a lot of GM part numbers) back to the chassis, and brought them back together after a separation of a couple months, now it is showtime, get that flattie goin' !!!!

Cheers and thanks for your interest!

Keith, big diffirents between a new design and an old design CMP (cab).
The old design cab 11 (cab), took us lots of more "restoring" time.
The new design cab 13 (cab) is much easyer to do,..........I think.

Keith Orpin 16-01-11 21:15

I must say Dirk & Stefan, very impressive rebuild (almost up to my standards !). Joking aside, I look forward to seeing the end result

What Paint are you using

Hi Dirk

What paint are you using? From your photos it looks like a good match to the unexposed paint I've been uncovering on my HUP which I'm overhauling and plan to paint this spring.

My problem is that I have not found a good color match to a current paint. Last batch I had mixed was back in 1992 and when they tried to mix it by the numbers recently it did not come out the same OD color at all.

Cheers Phil

To write a story about, working on a CMP "Monkey Face" truck (cab) is
a long story. Maybe a nice discussion in the Kitchener's Bar in Beltring ?
