Rob, thanks for the pictures and dimensions. How's this for a guess at the interior?

The bottom is lined with felt, then a piece of plywood sits on top with two 4" holes cut in it, and a space on one end for the ballitite cartridges. Towards the top of the box is another piece of plywood with similar holes cut in it, and it is secured in place by wood screws. That the box is only 15 cm tall, there could only have been two generators in it (they are almost 4" tall themselves).

You say this box came from the buried carriers in Manitoba. I was able to get the bin the holds the head of the Bren tripod (coloured yellow) from one of these carrier that went to the USA. I'll dig it out and get some dimensions on it. I'd also be interested to know if anybody has found (or has information on) the paired rifle boots just behind the battery (coloured red).

Lasty, I consulted an expert radio guy abut the 11 set clamps. He's as stymied as we are but has found a reference "in the Signal Training manual which
mentions "Clamps, mast, section (g)" under "Masts duralumin". The (g)
indicates that "Carried in Bags aerial gear, No 2 MK II". There is no
picture of these clamps and it sounds like they were not stored in a Bracket
Assembly."

Not sure what a Bags, Aerial Gear No. 2 Mk.II is. Tony, that aerial case is for a 19 set. The 4' 11 set sections would have been without a case on the engine cover as there are rubber linings in the clamps and only enough space for the 7/8" diameter rods.

Bruce is this the rifle holder you are talking about.

Ive included 2 pictures to show the item. I don't own them but the pictures came form a guy out west selling a buch of Mk1 stuff. Unfourtunalty I didn't get them but I think they all went to John Bizal. If he did get them he may be able to provide dimensions. I think I got one of the Boyes brackets from the same group.

Yes please!! I could scale it, and I have
dimensions on the Bren tripod socket, but those paired rifle boots are awfully sexy!! Details on the wooden floorboard would be helpfull too.

Rob, can you confirm the dimensions on the box? 12.5 and 15 cm sound reasonable, but did you mean 30 cm for the long dimension? Are these are O.D or I.D.?

That photo of the two sockets looks a lot like the set that were in my carrier when I traded it to Jim Rice. If it is the same one, there was little ramining of the floor board, so I made up a board out of some scrap. It is by no means the origional size.

Bruce, I'll confirm the measurements later today; the box has already been moved back out to the workshop. The box is somewhat distorted, so those measurements may not be as exact as one would need for perfection. I can't imagine what the upper piece of plywood looked like. The extra screw in the hinged area makes me think it may have been more than just a flat piece of plywood.

I take it the rifle boot and Bren tripod socket were original? They sure look like it.

As to the smoke generator, your height was 15 cm or 6". By scaling the (accurate, I think) dimensions from the drawing above (Coventry manual), the generator rounds themselves are about 4" tall. A 6" tall box would take a 4" tall item with room for the felt padding and space at the top. I vote that this box took two rounds.

Your theory about only holding 2 rounds sounds pretty good.
Yes the tripod socket and bren/rifle bracket are origionals.

I think this is one of the smoke generator rounds that would fit in the box. The price is a bit high in my mind but the picture shows what they look like.

White disc info sought
 

Another part I'm looking for information, construction details and dimensions on is the white disc and bracket on the rear underside attached to the right hand exhaust pipe. Does anyone have an original and can provide this?

Rob, were you ever able to firm up the dimensions on your smoke generator box?

I have an original,(it is painted green with slight traces of white peeking through).I will try to post pics or p.m. you with dimensions. Disc is 5 in. dia.,3/16 thick ,with( 2 x) 5/16 holes drilled diagonally at 1/2 in. centre from outside edge. There is a 5/16 bolt,1/2 long-(head of bolt is removed)-welded to center of arc of longest muffler bracket.There is another 5/16 bolt x5/8 long,which attaches to a 9in.long x 1in wide x3/8 thick bar. The end of the bar opposite the disc is cut at 45 deg. and has 2 holes drilled,1 at 1in,the other at 2 in. The holes are 1/4 dia. ,drilled on opposite sides of centre line running length,with the 1 in. hole on side nearest the point of the 45 deg.cut. Hope that is enough and not too much, LOL!

Mike, the white discs, or sometimes a circle of white paint on the differential, was used on Commonwealth vehicles as a Blackout Convoy marker. With the tail lights extinguished, the illuminated white disc/paint would be visible to the following driver, but not for example to Aircraft or an observer off to the side.

Je wilikers Batman , Brad just noticed this lite on a Mk2 schemetic on the 2 lites I believe it's just for a mk2 carrier, Or the diogram maybe calls for 2 types of convoy lites?1 or the other. The BIG Frenchman Cliff L., will be Reproing those refector Disc's and arms soon, you want one? the Disc arm I believe is attached to the lower left Muffler holder bracket? i think, anywho

Nope, thats not a carrier lamp. The lamp I have always seen is mounted to a bracket behind the tool plate, and uses the same style lamp as the rest of the carrier. If I recall correctly, it had the extension tube on it just like the old M-series vehicles, but don't quote me on that. I have the bracket hanging off a spare tool plate out in the back 40; I'll see what lamp is there, if any.
The plate mounts on the right side of the center of the differential

Wrong spot Brad. The curved pieces fit around the axle tube. The disc is low enought just to be seen from behind.
You'd have to run over someone for them to see it where you are putting it.

I might be wrong on the mounting location being the axle. It's been about 10 years since I last installed one of these. I think I have one somewhere in my piles of carrier parts, but I am not up to that point of restoration yet.
What happens if you install it on the lower muffler bracket? Will the other bar match up with some other pair of bolts, such as the engine cover angle iron bolts?

It goes on the lower R.H. muffler mount. The bracket off of the disc should mount on or near one of the exhaust pipe guards.

If you turn it upside down from the way it was in your picture it should fit.

It is kind of illustrated in the part manual. The rear view of the Mk1 Mortar carrier.

Like Jordan said,the reflector mounts to the bottom right muffler.
You will have to remove part #CO1UC 105124 -CLIP- and substitute the modified reflector clip. The reflector will then hang up-side down,with the bent arm pointed toward the carrier.
