Sorry, I didn't take pictures of that. There is a picture in the workshop manual but I have a new laptop with windows 10 and I am buggered if I can work out how to get the bloody printer to scan. What was wrong with windows 8.

How about the brakecilinders where did you dig those up...
also question on the central wheel nut what kind of wrench do you use to fix the nut ? I'm looking for a wrenchcap(?) don't know the English word to fit the 70mm wide nut (its quite big)

Here you go, if you have problem, I will get the link off ebay. In my opinion the front brake pipe, chassis to axle, could do with being a bit shorter. I couldn't find a socket to fit the large nuts, so I made a very crude one to suit. It works a lot better than a hammer and chisel, which is what had been used in the past by previous mechanics.

All of the parts that I have been waiting for have turned up so I was able to get the rear axle in and the brakes installed. It took quite a lot of searching to find some of the components so I will post where the parts came from.

I had time on Sunday to pipe the brakes in. The brake hoses that were on the vehicle, were far too long, infact, the front axle to swivel housing hoses, rubbed on the inside of the wheels. After a bit of research I found a company in Southhampton Hampshire, that had the correct hoses, run by a very helpful chap called Steve.

Your efforts to rebuild the HUP are extraordinary and the preservation of a less common vehicle is to be commended. Could you please post some pictures of the profile the of the re-enforcing channels that support the roof.

Thanks Gordon, very nice of you to say so. I hope that these are ok, obviously deeper sections in the rear and shallower in the front. The worst parts to form, were the radius sections, I tried several methods and in the end made some rollers for a pipe bender. Unfortunately it deformed the centre slightly but it was the best that I could do without press tools.

How much overlap does your hatch have versus the hole in the roof?

Did you make the actual omegaprofile or did you bend square tube?

The hatch size is 51 1/8" x 39 1/8"
The hole is 37 3/4" x 49 3/4"

I made the profiles and then bent them, I tried several methods and that was the best that I could come up with. As you know its a labour of love and HOPEFULLY mine is nearing completion ready for me to start the next one,
ha ha.

Progress has been a bit slow but its coming. I have been working on the wiring, which is complete and working now. Its all done with cotton covered wire and to the wiring diagram but I have added a fuse box. The horrible bit of modern wiring, that will be hidden under the steering wheel, is a 12v-6v transformer for the horn. I have connected it with blue connectors so that I can't get the 6v and 12v systems mixed up in the future.

I don't see the mounting of the coil, do you have the coil on the engine.?
My version has a special mounting tray mounted near the rear of the dash..

I have bolted my coil to the engine, as it was when I got it but when I was preparing the body for spraying, I found the remains of the coil brackets above the engine on the body frame. To be honest, I am not sure if these brackets were only on an HUW or whether all early C8's had them. Roberts, which is a HUW shown below has the same brackets.

Yes I have these brackets to mine is a HUM did not know that there is also a lid for the tray, I only have the bottom part of the tray.
The tray makes sense though for easy access...

Be careful of the coil bolts.

Be careful of the coil bolt length the hole go all the way through into the valve push rod passage. Seen two problems, 1st actually hitting the push rod, 2nd oil leaking around the threads of the bolt.

Keep up the great detailed work.

Jon, the position for the coil was unique to wireless trucks (and maybe machinery vans?) for radio interference suppression. If you had a moment, I'd love to get some details and measurements on the coil cover as I have to make one for my project.

By 1944, that radio suppression coil mounting up under the hood framework was standard issue for all Chev C15A Wireless Trucks and Chev was also producing a conversion kit that enabled retrofitting this equipment to any Chev that was deemed needed it. I think I posted the instructions for the kit somewhere on the Forum a while back but cannot remember where.

Levy's in Toronto used to sell the complete kits.

Unfortunately they closed down and the site was developed into condos over 30 years ago. But that's another story in itself.
