sorry Robert I disagree as the major parts are there....the chassis, spare wheel mount and rear body. The rest is mainly the same as the more common LWB 353 GMC CCKW. Does he have the large behind cab fuel tank? :) :thup2:
|
Cliff, looks like he already has another 352. Look in the background of the 2nd. photo. There is a more complete 352 there, complete with the fuel tank.
regards Rick. |
Rick you are correct I never noticed it back there. Be nice to see both on the road one day. :)

The one in the background is a cut down long wheel base that is actually 6" shorter than a short wheel base. It was cut down years ago to cart mine props. Kevin has found another long chassis and is planning to move all the parts over, at the moment it has a chevy 292 under the bonnet.

Gmc
When I was there in 1976 he had a nice original open cab GMC CCKW he had bought from the Tumut electricity board . He was planning on shortening it to work in the bush to collect mine props . That truck might be the one I spotted all those years ago.
I always wondered what the props were used for ?? Mike |

The Dodge is nearing completion and has passed a rego check so it will be on the road in November.

Kevin has been buying again, for spares this time, a Reo chassis cut brhind fuel tank and a Studi full chasis. Plenty of moss and rust but some useful parts to be salvaged.

Kevin also bought a running inter, ex fire bregade, in fairly good order. Unfortunatly the slat seat on the right side has been cut short for access to the hose real.

If this one turns out even half as good as the Dodge, it will be fabulous.

I hope I dont start another world war or get pelted to death slowly with small stones, (especially on this Canadian forum) but the truth is they were the best of their time to drive.
This is just my humble opinion, but they were more driver friendly than any British or CMP truck. The USA was at the peak of it's game when these were built. Now, ...................somewhere to hide?? Can I press the submit button with a long stick, from my hidy hole? BTW very nice Robert and Keith! |

Progress has been slow lately as the weed spraying has taken up most of Kevin's time. I managed to get off work today with time to take some photos of what has been achieved in the last fiew months.
|
It will be a while before any more progress is made as Kevin is cleaning up and packing getting ready to move closer to town. He needs to build a new shed at the new house and move everything before any more restoring takes place.

Reo
talking about Studebaker REO cabs , were would it be possible to get the rubber seal for the rear cab window ?

Excellent Robert, that yellow FWD is ex. Glen Stones. I had a bit to do with it's restoration. It is a first class restoration. The engine side panels came of my FWD and I managed to eventually find some more for mine. For the timber body Glen used the metal brackets of a wooden Studebaker tray and had to widen it 8 inches to make it correct for the FWD. It is a really to job. Glad it has gone to a good home and not overseas.
Regards Rick. |

Sorry I can't remember if Glen shortened it. All the timber was new and only the metal bits were reused. I only remember that it was widened 8 inches. Regards Rick. |
