way to much metal in the ground, there is surposed to be a heap of track buried there as well. The guy was told by his father never to break up the floor of one of their sheds as that was where they buried all the ammo out of the tanks ! This is the wrong thread to be putting all this. sorry didnt mean to hijack it.

eddy8men 04-01-11 23:46

i'm doing a loyd too, well sort of, i bought a fordson 7v chassis to start it off and with a little help from alastair :note: i might get there in the distant future i've also heard of a loyd on a hillside in a dark and distant land infested with heathen tribes (scotland) which i'll get up to see in springtime, i've also just found some wheels and track for it aswell so i might start it this year but we'll have to wait and see.

dingos / ferets and allsorts up at Spade adam.....they just wont let you in and have em....swines ! problem is they are all swiss cheese as its the RAF ordenance site

colin jones 05-01-11 22:03

Great work, How does the drive work with sprockets on both ends. Is one end free wheeling. Having a set of brakes each end would make turning very easy if they are adjusted correctly.
Keep up the good work.
Colin.

Lynn Eades 05-01-11 22:46

Colin

Essentially the Loyd is a truck chassis reversed. The front axle drives, the rear axle is braked, but does not drive. All four hubs are braked by cable. They have the enclosed driveshaft as per the older Thames traders, Cost cutters etc. (if you had them in Aussie)

Richie i have some high up contacts at Spade adam. Did them some faviors a few years back, have you any photos of the wrecks up there ?

Canadian Loyd ???

Guy’s i have another mystery.
Got some photos of a Canadian workshop and they show a loyd, but not the loyd carrier build in Britain.
It seems a canadian prototype based on the loyd but much better and stronger.

?????????????

I've seen those photos before here on the forum, it never got beyond the prototype phase.

Maybe they used a "proper" V8 chassis, i.e. a Ford Canada CMP chassis instead of a Fordson 7V one?

H.

The folding armour suggests that it is infact a female pixie, however being canadian, one could never be 100% sure :coffee As for it's name, this is yet to obtained, however archival evidence show it may be MKI, his/her parents weren't terribly inventive with names.

Dont forget that those pixies come with stars. eg. Pixie MkI*

shaun 08-01-11 11:10

Hello AJMAC,

I have made a complete new chassis for the Loyd Carrier, the orginal
one was totaly rotten. No numbers found in the rotten one (Fall 1996).
Will look around for bogie parts.

Dirk

The Bedford Boys 09-01-11 08:42

Got some work done saturday.

Re-made the tin work for the body yesterday and today. I think it looks good for a man with 1 left hand.

Dirk, now i know how you felt when doing this. It does not fit the first time.

ajmac 10-01-11 14:00

Paul,
Time consuming work, but it makes the biggest impact on the progress of the job!

Dirk,
Thanks for the photo and info, do you have any Loyd dash switch panels left? I'll need one. NOS fuse box arrived a couple of days ago, but oil pressure guage is proving tricky to ID, can't find any manufacturer details in the Parts book.

Thank's easo for the photo's there welkom.

But "time goes on" in my museum so we worked hard to get the Loyd on the road. Got the roadwheels on again and building the fuel tanks.

:coffee

ajmac 17-03-11 15:50

Great work on those fuel tanks, I wondered what baffles they had inside. I'm trying my hardest to get those exhaust parts done as soon as possible, from the conversation I had this moring they should be ready by the end of next week but I will not be able to confirm that until Monday 28th March as my Dad who is organising them is on Holiday in Norway! Apparently because the stub pipes are handed, the machinist put off making the jig until he had both types and the foundry were late sending the other type through to him.

paul visser 19-03-11 22:48

On track's

After attaching all the wheels and having some time left we got the idea to put on the track's. So here we go.

Afther 45 minutes we got the job done. Free beer for all
