Hi Robert.
Reos such as the one that you photographed are a Studebaker US6 by another name. They are appear to be identical to the Stude except for the identification they carry. Studebaker built trucks are identified in four places. Nomenclature plate on the dash, Badge in the center of the horn button, chassis plate attached to outside of chassis l/h side below battery and the word Studebaker cast on the manifold twice in large letters with the company logo between. The Reo has the first three but the manifold is blank. What the relationship was between the two companies I don't know but the different manifold suggests that they were sourcing their parts independently. The scattering of Reos in among the Studes in Australia also suggests that the were indiscriminantly mixed up in delivery and certainly in service. David |

Sorry I'm a bit late with my own hijack here.

The Reo owner has a Studebaker in another shed, I haven't photographed it yet, but he bought the Reo because he was told they are a rearer truck.
|
That is certainly true. There were never as many Reos around as there were Studebakers. If I had to take a wild guess I would say about 1 in 10, quite likely fewer than that even.

Are these trucks known?
A friend in Melbourne tells me that there are a couple of Blitzs in Elgin Street, Carlton between Rathdowne and Drummond Streets.
I have an idea they may have been mentioned on the forum. Can somebody confirm please? David |

This is their building. If you walk up the lane you'll see them, assuming they're still there. Odd to think they exist so close to the centre of a large city. |
Thanks Keith, the information is current, the vehicles were sighted last Thursday.

CArlton Blitz
Back in 1978.. I had a look at a very tidy pink C15A for sale in Carlton..the seller worked for the Coburg council and it still had their logo on the door ...
It was registered with the 1947 plates still on it ..prefix MG ... he wanted $600 , he took me for a spin around the block in it.. it ran like a swiss watch . It was a cab/chassis . What became of it ? MIKE |
