What we have seen here are just snapshots of various scenes and personal perspectives of the fire. The intervening time has allowed all aspects of the fire to be collated into a "Big Picture" of what went on, and the New South Wales Government have now released the findings of the official Inquiry: https://www.dpc.nsw.gov.au/publicati...hfire-inquiry/

It is a long and wordy read, but comprehensively addresses the issues.

This is just the examination of the bush fires that occurred in the state of NSW over the 2019/20 summer, and it is important to understand that there were also fires burning concurrently, and sometimes connecting, in the states of Queensland and Victoria. To put some perspective of the scale of devastation, JUST ONE of the NSW fires, the "Gospers Mountain" fire (the fire that burnt my property), burnt out 550,000 hectares (1.35mil acres), and that fire alone was only 10% of the total. In NSW alone, the fires burnt 5.5 million Ha, equivalent to the combined land area of Belgium and The Netherlands. Qld and Vic fires added more still, to 15mil Ha, or 1/6th the area of Ontario.

We have a lot to learn from this.

Eight months since our property burnt and we now have about ninety percent ground cover again, the fire was hot. The Duns road fire burnt in seven hours what took three days to burn in the eighty's when I was an active fire fighter.
I am slowly replacing the top shed with two containers and a pod roof. I will add a back wall soon. From what I have been told by fire fighters on the other side of the valley my entire hundred acres was on fire within six seconds of the fire reaching the creek. Glad I was evacuated.

Hi Robert and Vicki,

Nice to see the natural recovery taking place. We are also pleased that you chose to evacuate.

Is that another Blitz I see in one photo? Yours?

Yes Rick that blitz is the basket case I bought. There was no room for it in the sheds, the fire raced over it and only burst two tyres, it didn't catch fire.
