It was a great day. Has anyone taken a photo of a "FORD" Only Script on the front of the cab. I have never seen one....

Ian

My double dimpled Ford headlight rings ARE brass.

Another "FORD" front shell (showing the headlight bucket screws are not symmetrical, so you can't put the headlights in upside down):

Headlight rings?

Thanks Tony,

Any chance of a picture of the brass variety rings? I suspect they were just left that way (non Chromed) from a 38-42 Ford Truck.

Gee Would not be bad to see the rest of your truck now either! Looks like you are making better progress than me.

An interesting shot showing an Australian modification to a Blitz seat (may be for Ford OR Chev). This shows the bit of tube stock welded in at the top to widen the seat back.

The Australian Chev roof hatch. Note that the top of the cab roof is raised around the base of the roof hatch. Note also the Canadian pattern grab handle. I believe the Canadian roof hatch is supported by timber on the cab roof.

In comparison, here's a shot from inside the open roof hatch on an Australian Ford. Note the dual grab handles fitted in lieu of the Canadian pattern one as seen on the Chev. These dual handles were also fitted to modified conventional vehicles in Australia.

This is the roof hatch of the same Ford in the open position. Note the loop handle on the inside, the stamping pattern and the butterfly latch to hold it in the open position. Missing from this example, though, is the latch which holds it shut (holes for it visible to the right of the butterfly latch).

The Brass rings were plated in Nickel, which was then painted over with body colour Green/Sand, etc. The paint doesn't adhere too well the Nickel and over time flakes off, and then the Nickel plating starts to come off the brass.

I have sandblasted these rings, then primed them with POR15 to stick to the Brass, then they will be painted to match the truck.

Tony,

I like your work.. they are super straight rings.. mine dont look like that.. a botched job from Dubbo.

Please, if you have time e-mail me pics of your truck.

For Max, do you have a spare Ford hatch, just lying in the 10, 000 acre hay farm? I know someone who would use it right away.

Also I noticed that Chevs have insulation in/on the engine bay.. looks like asbestos stuff.... but I am leaving that for someone else to discover.

Ring & rim

Max you are a nice bloke.

I could do with a rim & ring.

This being Easter and all, I could go a cuppa at your place in Yass. I would be very privelledged to have one and enjoy your hospitality.. DO I need to bring anything? A full day's labour?

I can bring a tea cake if you like.

Ian.

Hi All
This is probably not in the "Difference" category but was fitted to our late ambulance. Ambo is sold to finance and make room in the shed for Project Phoenix.

Of course it was a FORD Blitz ambulance

Another Difference

1 Attachment(s)
Hi all
Whilst restoring some panels the other day I remembered this thread. Here is a difference that most would not be aware of, namely the gauges and speedometer holding screws. As can be seen from the attached image there are ordinary headed and round headed screws. The ordinary ones hold in the gauges with the longer being Ford with the shorter being Chevrolet. The same with the round headed ones that hold in the speedometers, the longer being Ford with the shorter being Chevrolet. Although not being much difference in length, just imagine the savings in metal Chevrolet made when you translate the difference over millions of screws.

Fords are "longer"

Hi bob,

Interesting tid bit. Now I don't want to go too far off track with this but are you saying that in comparing Fords to Chevs...
If someone was in the market for a long screw :smoker: they should talk with a Ford owner rather than the common Chevy owner

Mike
A Ford owner will give you a far better screw whereas Chev owners only give you half a screw.
