Well have to agree with "The Battle of the Bulge" being a dud others I belive that should get a mention are:-

"Midway" cheeper flick with rehashed footage from "Torra Torra Torra" and rode on the shirt tails of the same...

"Thin Red Line" too art house... what a yawn!

As for TV series...

OMG the "Rat patrol" its sooo cheezey!

The good ones:-

"Kelly's Heros"

"Bridge too Far" and has any one seen the one done just after the war (don't know what it was called), no famous actors in it but full of genuine gear and vehicles.

well the list goes on...

Phil... :salute:

bridge to far

Hello Phil,

The other "bridge to far" movie is called "theirs is the glory" witch was made in 1946 or1947 by the actual soldiers who fought at arnhem and oosterbeek. There even is some actual war footage in it as well. It is a good source for those interested in the arnhem-oosterbeek battle as it contains all kinds of equipment, recce jeeps and even a panther tank.

That's it!.... thanks!

Was an interesting movie. Had to laugh at the scean where the batman is brewing up for the CO and gets sent out with his trusty PIAT to sort out that pescky German tank. Task done he returns to finnish the bosses cupper.

It's a movie well worth seeing!

Phil... :salute:

Film I always enjoyed as a kid.."Ryans Express". Cab 13 cab in the POW Camp run by the Italians, Memory a little hazy but may have had something to do with the punishment "Sweat Box"??
Cheers

GWB will be interested in this !!

I'm having an aircraft kind of day, what with seeing a Sikorsky CH-148 Cyclone helicopter(replacing the Sea King for the navy) fly over the house! Then I was watching Plattsburg NY PBS program called "People near here" with Derek Muirden whose two uncles and father fought in WW1 with the Canadian Scottish regiment. He did a feature at the CWM also and found their rscords.Anyway I mentioned being at Plattsburg beach a few years ago on the thread when a green C-47 in invasion stripes flew over the beach.Today on TV , Derek Muirden met the owner, a Jim Doucet who also owns four DC-3's,all based out of Plattsburg airport. It turns out that the C-47 is a movie star, being the aircraft the Dirty Dozen jump from in the movie.Small world indeed ! :salute:

Aye Garry, t'is a fine day when a warbird flies over!

So the DND finally decided on a replacement for the Sea King, did they? Well, it only took, what, 10 years to decide and many millions of dollars for breaking the contract with Eurocopter or whoever they were (details are lost in the depths of time!)

Aye Sapper me boy

You've got to see this sucker. It has a low profile with five windows along the airfrane.Hey don't knock it.Yankee ingenuity at work..I wonder if the tail rotor assmbly folds in to store on our FFH(Fast Frigate Helicopters-the best damn frigates at sea-according to US experts in naval design) frgate hangars. :confused :salute:

alleramilitaria 26-05-06 01:04

the problem with the eurocopter is the same as all euro mil aircraft, too much (new untested tec), too old (the designs were new 20 years ago), too many (countries have a part on building the AC), too few ( of the AC are produced driving up per unit cost).
:D
