Beam trailer

Dear Neil,

Contact DEHS - they may wish to preserve it!

Larry

If the Royal Signals Museum who have the kit to go in it are not interested, I can't immagine that DEHS will want it.

Hello everyone.

I'm new here - what a splendid place!

I was given a link to this thread by a member of our group. The trailer mentioned in the last few posts now belongs to our group - donated by another member.

We intend to resore it at least externally and have made progress.

The trailer has now been re-tyred, and last weekend the remaining body panels were carefully de-mounted for reproduction. The chassis will now be sandblasted and painted while this goes on.

A separate team from the group are recreating the mirrors with the help of the excellent RSIGS museum at Blandford and a couple of 1.5 metre satellite dishes that we "found"!

Follow our progress at

There'll be an update on last weekend's work up there soon!

Hi Vic

Yes , a few of those No. 10 sets did make it out to the antipodeas . A club member here, was a young technician in the PMG ( post office ) in the mid 1950's . At that time , they were experimenting with microwave links and they used a few of the No. 10 sets to test the feasabilty of a permanent setup . I have never seen one of those trailers , but it makes sense that they were here . The sets were integral with the trailers I would think. Why send the sets without the trailers ? The actual number of sets imported would be very small, probably explains why none are left here, that I know of .

In fact, in service (mid 1944 onwards) both sets and dishes were often dismounted from the trailer and moved into buildings - especially high ones - to improve the line of sight.

The method of construction of these trailers is such that all four walls can be easily and quickly dismounted by a couple of blokes with a spanner each! (We know, we did this last weekend.)

So iIwouldn't assume necessarily that the sets arrived with trailers - although of course if there are trailers surviving in Australia they probably did.
