My first CMP was a 12cab Ford. At 6'3" and a large frame, it was difficult but not impossible.
I could never drive with size 12 boots on. I was relegated to running shoes or even bare feet in the summer. I also found that I needed to rid myself of the original, somewhat soft seat, instead opting for nothing more than about an inch of padding with a cover on it. Anything thicker and I could not get my knee high enough to clutch without hitting the steering wheel. :doh: |
I am 6'1" luckily I have narrow feet so pedal space is not much of a problem for me in both ford or Chevrolet cab 11/12. The Cgt has much more leg space side ways than the regular cab 11/12 because the cab doesn't have the doors next to you. The seat is also a bit higher and can come further back. I would highly recommend a CGT/FGT cab 11/12

No way....too many big tucks in the yard already. I used to poke fun at the big truck guys about the fuel costs and the amount of labour to keep those bohemouths on the road. Thanks to my C-1, I have 3 in the yard.
I could do the mid 50s impression by using an M37. Seems to me there was a gap in service when the tractors left, the M37s were in, and the M2A2s (C1) were not in service yet, especially in the militia. |
I was referring to the gun tractor by using a CCKW instead of a FAT. Or if it doesn't matter use one of your other big boys to pull a 25pdr...

Yes, but mostly as funeral carriages.
The 25 pdr, with it's spades very close to the lunnette, is very picky about what tows them. Even the artillery tractor without it's limber leads to problems. When people ask for the tractor and gun for functions like funeral parade or public events, we talk them into taking the Limber as well to prevent damage to the truck and gun. God help you if you need to back up more than a foot though. |
