Hanno, you can tell it's a Chev one by the really rough workmanship :D

I see that Hanno's has a two rivet hold down bolt, and Keith's has a shorter, fatter three rivet hold down bolt.

Hanno, any chance you can post up some detail shots of the knobs on the cover? Maybe some measurements.

Hi Bill,

I have contacted the owner of the Ford battery cover that Keith had posted photos of earlier in this thread. He's happy to give me the dimensions so I can draw up some plans and I should have them soon and then be able to post them here.

Construction is pretty basic, front and sides are just a single folded piece of sheet-metal and open at the back. The lid is just sheet-metal with a small lip folded over on three sides and spot welded randomly to the front and side piece. The top holes are slightly elongated he thinks. It's real sheet-metal 101 once one has the correct dimensions and metal thickness.

Seriously, other than fabrication details which could be due to different contractors making battery boxes to the same design, no-one has been able to pouint out any real differences between Ford & Chevrolet battery boxes.

Hi Jordan,

Attached is a photo of a post attached to an original Ford CMP battery holder- the middle photo.

I published on MLU the plans for the battery holder which included the studs back on 10-Aug-12 and have also reproduced the studs drawing here.

Of interest is the photo of two NOS 1938 Ford passenger car battery holder studs. Other than being longer, they are the same design. Note that the flattened forged end is slightly different shape in each case. Different component suppliers designs maybe? So on that basis the shape may not be too critical to look correct.

My drawing of the one taken from a CMP battery holder is more like the stud on the right side.

I see that the first photo in Mariano's post shows a different vehicle. The earth lead is bolted to the chassis with one of the front outrigger bolts and there is only one hole in the chassis rail for the other lead. In the other photos the earth lead is at the rear of the battery box and there are two holes with the other lead through the front hole.
