Hi all, sorry for the lack of pics. I've just started to make the stowage bins, so here's a bit of a run down how I do them :)

and a few more

Now they have to be fully welded, ground and then the lids. This is the same way they would have been done all those years ago. All made from 16G or 1.6mm material as per the original. :)

Beautiful piece of work there friend. Excellent thread, beautiful workmanship BUT....not enought tools and clutter lying around the workshop so you obviously doing something wrong!!!!!! :thup:

Thanks Paul but as I'm the only one in my workshop I can't blame anyone else if there's crap everywhere so I've gotta clean it up myself. :) :cheers:

Oh and I cut out the old air scoop that was welded in and refurbished another one and made it a bolt in. Certainly better for the painting side of things.

As a matter of fact Paul, it was prepared earlier. :) :cool: Anyway , I have cut, ground, hammered and bent the lids. They just need to be welded and ground but that's tomorrows job unless I get a sudden burst of energy.

Also makes my metal work skill seem woefully inadequate especially when I get excited making a TAC sign holder.

Thanks Tony, I'm glad you like them and I'm happy to show and share any work I've done if it can help. I also just had a end of the day burst of energy and welded the boxes so the only thing left is the clips. That's definitely tomorrows job.

Made some clips to finish the stowage boxes. These are so time consuming but very important.

Of course, I'm sharing my trade secrets. :rolleyes :)

These are some little bending machines I've made out of scrap but they do work very effective. I just need to make the little clip retainers and weld them on the boxes.

Thing is, that's how they were designed and constructed!
Getting itchy hands watching all these carriers being restored. Still trying to find a resto over here, been offered a few near complete one's, which makes more sense but that's half the fun! Hear of anything out there please let me know. Got to get it soon as missus has all my funds allocated to our wedding next year, and I know where my priority is (green n military looking, NOT my missus in combats !!!!!) :eek:

I have admired your work for years and your workman ship is so professional I must ask about your background..Curiosity has gotten the better of me..We had another "Col" before he passed away this year in his seventies or early eighties..He was a master fabricator and machinist..could spray paint and do any kind of repair or fabricate out of any kind of material..leather ,wood ,steel ..he had a pretty complete machine shop and mill .,lathes,welders spray booth and we lost a great friend to MLU when we lost Greg Anderson..Greg was a super guy and would and did help so many people ..and was a master gunsmith and watch maker..
What he did for a living to support his hobbies....a lawyer.,..
And He told me when he was young he was always fixing up old Fords and Chevs but his father and mother made him get an education so went into law..he told me he did enough legal work to support his family and his hobbies but he much preferred his hobbies..
What a guy...!!
It would not surprise me to learn that you are a trained something or other than what you appear to be ..machinist...fabricator ..welder..engineer..or a combination of all ..anyway your workmanship is top cabin...

Hi Alex and thankyou for your kind words. I have done a trade as a Butcher and also did smallgoods and slaughtering :no4: for about 12 or so years then decided to get into building which I learned to weld and then had my own structural steel company. I have not had any formal training in this area but if you make enough mistakes you're bound to learn from them. Also if you have a keen interest in something I bet you'll learn 10 times quicker than someone that is forced to learn and I do have a keen interest in anything mechanical.
Perhaps we should have a thread "What is your trade". I'm sure we would be very surprised at what we'd see. :cheers:

I just picked up another 2 carriers. So into the shed they go. A set of boxes finished, cleaned and painted.

Also made the rear guards, primed and test fitted.

A couple of pics of the boxes on the back of VC2225. They're just sitting there of course.
