Ford Blitzs

I wonder where their new home is going to be?

Keith Webb 04-02-14 23:55

The new owner

The new owner is one of us... he will probably reveal this information to all in due course.

Best thing is they are in good hands.

Ryan 05-02-14 07:29

I told Ian MLU would do the trick.

I'm happy to report they will soon be joining my collection of projects awaiting attention. At $5500 the pair I couldn't resist! The Cab 12 will now go to the top of the list, to be returned to the road in "as found" condition, including extendable yellow hand signal found in the shed. I can't wait to see what the cops will make of that! Not to mention the 1966 rego sticker!

The previous owner started work towards roadworthiness about 15 years ago but passed away before completion. He got the motor running, fitted brand new rear tyres, muffler, uni joints, reco brake booster, cooling system etc, including possibly new tropical core radiator. He even sourced some NOS steering end assemblies, although I'd be surprised if these are needed.

Anyway here's some pics for your enjoyment.

A few shots of the cab interior, which is fully original except for the usual timber roof frame repairs. No missing parts at all, no extra parts like dashboard switches, and the engine cover panels are stored in the shed. It just needs seat cushions, and I have some ratty ones which will match that backrest nicely!

Beautiful!

And together with the other, worth every cent!

Ca't wait to see her running.

Shane 05-02-14 10:36

Wow

Mate she looks great. Please can you post more photos if you don"t mind of the motor cover and the wood that the seats rest on. Also if you are able can you put up a video of the old girl showing her inside and out. Reason being i think if we can get most MLU people to put up videos and hints on their projects it would be a massive help to others being able to rewind, pause and listen to people in the know. There is something to be said about visual aids eg someone telling me about Samantha Fox is not as good seeing her in a video  :salute:

No worries Shane, I just need to learn how to post on youtube. Also my SLR does full hi res video so I could send you a disc for downloading, that way you'll get much finer detail on freeze frame and you can zoom in and save stills for reference.

This is all I have of the seat risers until I get her home.

What about the timber dropside tray, I'm assuming it's original...? If so I can draw up full plans if none exists already.

Yes I need to thank you Ryan, I'm a bit slack with Gumtree and don't check as regularly as ebay, so I may have missed these ads but for your fine work. You had them up within 2 days of being listed, giving MLUers a good head start over the pack. At the time I bought them he'd only had 3 calls, and they were Keith, you, and me!

Shane 06-02-14 09:02

cab 12

Hi Tony

Mate a disc would be bloody great, if you get the time i would love to get a copy. My cab 12 is missing lots of smaller bits also one or two larger parts and yours looks very complete. Thanks again mate :note:  :salute:

:salute: At your service.

Shane 06-02-14 12:47

Cheers Ryan for your posts and finding the many many items. Mate if you find a cab 12 Ford drivers door and spare wheel carrier ill pay a finders fee. :salute:

Chev Blitz in Ballarat

advertised as a blitz but it's not, still awesome though.

here's a real blitz truck, a chev tipper:
http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/helid...per/1044322170

Grant Bowker 17-04-14 12:50

The tipper mentioned above explains why some restorers view "museum piece" as a negative term. I suspect the wheelbase has been stretched, the brake booster isn't the original style and at least the fan and oilpan (and I suspect the entire motor) have been replaced. I know very little about Australian engines but didn't Holden make a red series post-war? The body also looks like a replacement designed for a high bulk, low density cargo - it would be a serious overload even for a blitz if filled with earth or rock.

hrpearce 17-04-14 13:23

Grant, just scaling from the wheel I calculate that the body would be about 12 cubic yards so anything heavier than ping pong balls would overload it.

Grant, I may be wrong, but, I think that the engine is an International(IHC)

Rick.

Looks to me to be built on a Strickland Carrier.
Attachment 65828
See how the track sprocket is small and the tracks are outside the brake drums.

So it is in it's third life. Bren Carrier, Strickland tractor and a ???.

Regards Rick.

Dianaa 08-06-14 13:29

The ad seems to specify it went direct from bren carrier to whatever it is now.

They say the Ford V8 is still available and can be restored as a bren carrier but don't say if the original hull is still available.

Jon Bradshaw 08-06-14 18:58

wow, must be using it as a paintball tank....

I am building a vickers 1937 out of a T16 hull. I hope my efforts result in a better looking tank then that "tank"...

Private_collector 09-06-14 00:14

'Tank' conversion

Yes, it serves as a warning to us all.
Seems it was built with specific purpose in mind, and I dont think any quarter was given to what they were doing to a piece of history. I find that astonishingly irresponsible, BUT thats only my viewpoint. Guess the builder had a different perspective, and they have certainly created something unique and fun for the user/s. Farmers had done worse to military vehicles, yes? At least its closer to restorable as a result of being made into this tank, as opposed to getting the guts flogged out of it, then cut up and put on a farm dump.

As Maxwell Smart would put it, "If only they had used their skills for good, instead of evil" :D

The one thing that breaks my heart is the selling of military medals, by whatever medium. Especially heart rending is seeing medals sold individually, when they were obviously part of a set. I have even heard of WWII medals being thrown out when families clear out the belongings of deceased relative who earned them. That should be a crime, a genuine, legally punishable crime. With my elder brother passing away some months ago, I am now the temporary custodian of my fathers WWII medals. I have already had the talk with my son, expressing my wish that the medals can NEVER be sold or given outside the family. They are an award, not a commodity! Fortunately, my son holds the same reverence as I, and has promised that he will respect my wishes. Should no one in the family wish to have the medals, they and the accompanying wall display must only be disposed of by donating them to an RSL (Returned Services League, for those o/s) club or the Australia War Memorial, in Canberra.

sidevalve

I'm on my phone right now so I can't link to it but there is a ww2 ford v8 flathead powered sawmill powerpack still with it's original is tag. That's gotta be rare. In nsw, $850, engine runs I think.
Look up stationary powerpack.
