Perry, I would be interested in the 8 lower cover thumb screws. Ben, could you confirm the price for the casting minus machining?
|
Perry,
Same info. as Jordan. Hope it all works out. |
I've got no issue with getting them cast, I'll ask this week. I was only trying to point out that the post machining "may" need a lathe. As soon as I have a price I'll post it.

On closer inspection, I think the thumb screws are forged. They have a wide seam on the shoulder and the part number is stamped in. I am also going to get a quote on having them machined from round stock, that would also supply them finished.
Ben is correct. Chucking the cast screws up in a lathe to turn and possibly thread would be getting expensive. Some might think machining from bar stock would be expensive as well. When I get the quotes, will post prices. Perry |
I am confused
Are we talking about the upper round knurled knobs(one type only) with the internal (female) threads, that hold the upper engine side covers at the top,
Or are we talking about a male threaded wing nut type stud (at least two types) that hold the lower engine side covers in place, or..... are talking about both or something else? |
Lynn,
I am talking about the screws that hold the lower engine covers in place. The two I have are stamped TL 3596, FMCO 42 Perry |
I have a plain lower engine cover thumb screw that i'm going to take to the foundry to get a quote on. Could someone post a picture of a part number marked Canadian style original please. If the quote is good i will need to borrow it or a similar one to copy for a week or two.

I have a quote for the lower engine cover screws. It came in at $18-20 ea. These would be machined from steel round stock on a 8 axis CNC machine, and be supplied fully finished. This quote would be for a minimum 100 pieces. No part numbers stamped in. This is a little more than I had hoped ($12-14 was the figure I estimated). Any takers?

can you not just cast the thumb bit, drill it and then wind in some stud to make the threaded section ?

See cast parts round 3 for info on engine cover screws.
