Shaun what is the grand plan for this one then ?

shaun 24-12-10 23:06

strip down starts on Monday - full rebuild, i may even make the flame equipment for it. then sicily markings - i have the overalls - you and me then need to find some where with a lamp post with 3 lights hanging from it to go in the back ground of the photo do you have a short mates to stand in for the other guy ?

kevin powles 24-12-10 23:27

Just so every one else knows what im on about with that comment Richard i have post the photo - our grandfathers served together , mine was the REME fitter with the carrier platoon Richards was a carrier driver - my grandfather is on the right Richards is on the left.

RichardT10829 25-12-10 21:44

hahahaah he would need to be bloody short i am only 5' 10" hahahaha

lssah2025 25-12-10 22:03

Very nice find, good luck!!!!

andrew honychurch 26-12-10 09:54

super find, i am astounded that being so close to the road its not been seen before, or at least by a collector. I have also been driving around the country looking over hedges for 35 years or so, which is why I drive a 4x4;)

Thats amazing. Are you going to enlighten us to the story behind it? It seems a very strange place to dump a Carrier.

Robin Craig 26-12-10 19:32

Shaun what about the CVRT in the background, does that need a home now that you have the carrier?

R

RichardT10829 26-12-10 21:36

CVRT now that is one beast i wouldnt mind a bash in...tad easier to drive than a carrier, what with pre select gearbox's or automatic for that matter... always nice to drive summit built at my home town :)

PS Shaun here are some other photo's to get the creative juices flowing

finally got started on the strip down, managed to find the WD number (see photos) CT 112596. Its coming apart nicely with no nasty surprises . The hand control for the flame kit is still in place and there is only one section top armour missing which should not to be to hard to fit a new section in. I have pulled together a shopping list of the main items that are missing, i will post on here soon hoping that some of you guys will have some odd parts laying around.

shaun 27-12-10 20:21

Here's the start of the list to be going on with - the cash is waiting !
1/ Road springs
2/ both brake bell cranks ( the ones on the rear hull)
3/ front idler brackets
4/ front idler bkt bolts
5/ radiator
6/ air filter

eddy8men 27-12-10 20:47

great thread mate, i like the link between yours and richie's grandads it's a nice touch to think the carriers got you and richie in contact with each other all those years later.
i've got a couple of rads aswell if you need them, ones rough and the others worse but it's a start.

all the best

eddy

RichardT10829 27-12-10 20:56

I still wanna know where that other carrier Kevin mentioned is lying :)

eddy8men 27-12-10 21:03

lol, i was just pm'ing kevin when you put your post on, i think he should post the location on here and then it would be like the whacky races as we all set off for it. could be a great new years treasure hunt :D

eddy

shaun 27-12-10 21:43

Richie - i know where it is nar nar ne nar nar  but lets put it this way its going to take a big helicopter and permission from a foriegn goverment a long long way away to get it, so the race is on. let me know who wins.

eddy - rad sounds good - i always have them recored anyway, are you going to stoneleigh ?

eddy8men 27-12-10 22:04

i'll be at stoneleigh and i'll bring them with me, if you drop me your mobile number i'll get in touch and we'll arrange to meet up down there.

all the best

eddy

eddy8men 27-12-10 22:09

just had an idea of the carriers whereabouts, nothing more than a vague recollection but is it on an island off the coast of canada ?

shaun 27-12-10 23:52
