Mike,
I didn't doubt for a minute about your sanity! Mac's has a part no. A180620, Side Curtain Rod Socket, shown in their latest catalog. The detail in the drawing of it is insufficient to see whether the socket itself is square or round. I may need to call them on something else and will ask. Will let you know what the answer is. Regards, Jim |
Top Door Frame Snaps
Quote:
Aah! The detail in your latest picture does clearly show the snaps on the upper door frame! However, because it is an inside-the-cab picture, one cannot tell from it whether there is a separate piece of canvas snapped in place or that this particular side curtain had a top flap that snapped in place there. I still rather doubt this latter possibility because of the awkwardness of having to unsnap the top each time the door was opened. Regards, Jim |

There isn't any separate item you describe ( canvas piece ) , listed in the Chev cab 11/12 parts list . Mike |
Mike,
A canvas piece might have been a after-war add on by the civilian owner. However, it does look like it would serve much the same as the piece that goes on the windshield frame, i.e. keep water from "wicking" around the top of the door frame and into the cab. Regards, Jim |
It looks to me like the side canvas just folds over at the top and snaps in place. It would make it awkward when opening the door, but I can see where you'd want to eliminate that draft if it was -30C or so. I was going to put -40C but how would you get one of those engines started at that temp?

David,
It does make sense to me, even though it might be awkward, that one would want to snap up the top of the curtain to eliminate any unnecessary drafts. Having said that, it might have been wishful thinking...... Regards, Jim |
Top fasteners are for clip on piece were side screen rests against , see my picture of top of cab , it is an original one . It is flat canvas with a round rubber stitched into it .
Old Fords and other Old timers have that same square socket in the doors for side screens , and they also have round rods for the sreens , Square sockets make sense so the rods don`t jam that easy. if somebody needs more pictures of the top canvas piece let me know , also a picture of how the rods are in the side screen. |
Maurice,
Please send out some more pictures of the top canvas piece. Thanks, Jim |

Could there be a difference between cab 11 and cab 12 side curtains....regarding size of the clear sections, type of rods used and shape of bushings in the top of the door? Or just differen manufacturers?
@ Maurice. The grill cover looks like a great accessory and I have never seen one in real life. Thanks for posting the picture. Alex p.s. I have sent you a PM. I have an interest in a set of curtains if you are willing to part with a set. |
Revival
Was going over this thread and it has really really useful info Cab 11/12 owners
Perhaps it could be made into a sticky thread. What do the moderators think? |

Here is an example of what Alex did: Reference: HOW-TO topics on MLU...techniques, tricks etc.. I will gladly make such a thread a sticky. Would this work for you? Regards, Hanno |
Would work for a lot of us......
It might be a good idea to document the possible different model/different manufacturers that where available....... they did come in assorted color according to the parts book...... but none in RED

Sounds Good

Are you able to provide some measurements of these? Just length and diameter would be really really useful. Please?? |

Curtain Rod Holders
Afternoon Gents,
Ill stick with this thread because I am attempting to get the rods and curtains spot on with new reproduction materials. Part of this involves getting the rod holders in the doors right. I just rang a die cast place who suggested the mould may cost $3000!!!!!! My next question is obvious - does anyone know where there may be some new old stock ones??? I have tried the ones from Mac's that suit Model T's and A's but they don't quite fit properly. Suggestions?? |
Square holes
Tony
You need one of those drills that makes square holes There is a process called broaching, https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broaching_(metalworking) square holes are made possible . Would it be possible to fabricate new sockets from aluminium or brass stock rather than a casting process ? |

OK... Its been a while but this project has been embarked upon.
I have had the help of a engineering business in Corowa for the rods and the Canvas has been very well done by a professional trimmer who specialises in the WW2 gear. This is the result.. |
Matt
Looking good
I posted the original curtain to Matt just after Corowa. The vinyl trim piece around the clear plastic windows is a dark green on the original , we discussed it at Corowa ? |

However - if you have a look at Jim Prices example further down it has a black surround. I have yet to do the fasteners at the bottom. Matt did leave the curtain a bit longer for alteration if necessary. |
