End of major restorations

2 Attachment(s)
Good evening friends.

With the final installation of the support tray for the No 19 HP set , this brings us to the end of major restorations for this project.

Still have to find some ancillery cables for the No 19 HP to make it operating . Meanwhile the no 19 set underneath is operatable in receive and transmit when i hook it all up.

The truck starts and runs great, stops on a dime and all gears are smooth as butter.

The box is restored better than new with the modern insulation in the walls . The generator compartment needs some wiring done to bring power to the Wireless batteries but that is easy . The lights in the box are nice and bright and work either on 12V or 110 V . I have a 110 V power supply cord running to an outlet near the Wireless table just as the original No 19 HP installation that could be run on either 12 V or 110V . Found an Onan generator for the gen box to feed 110V to the radio and power up a heater for those frosty Fall days coming up.

If you ever come across wires and cables specific to the No 19 HP set get in touch please.

I will post smaller improvements as they happen to keep the post alive.

Thanks Richard for starting this great project for me . Look where it is now ! I could not of done it without you my friend.

Congratulations Robert on your diligent and meticulous restoration of the C-15-A Wire 5! Considering that this vehicle was originally only partially restored in one location and that the Radio Box was being used as a dog house in another location, this completed, operational vehicle now demonstrates that perseverance and patience pays off. Every project has its "can't do this anymore" moments but the end result, like this, makes all of the past efforts worth it. Keep them rolling and enjoy the ride! (I sure have)

Maybe the C15 wireless truck will belongs to the South Alberta Light Horse regiment.
The SALH were reorganized as the 29th armoured regiment(the South Alberta Regiment) when they arrive at Europe , the SAR was selected to be the reconnaissance regiment of the 4th Canadian(Armouded)Division and after a strongh/heavy fight at the scheldt at the Netherlands, the SAR was with the 4th Canadian(Armuded) Division and took part with the liberation of Bergen op Zoom..

Lance, are you sure? There are multiple pictures of vehicles at the Bergen op Zoom square that are clearly marked Canadian(?). Or, are you suggesting that only the AA-tanks are Polish?

Alex, the 4th Canadian AD and Polish 1st AD were in Bergen Op Zoom, I don't think the Canadians had their Crusader AA's this late, this picture was probably 1st PAD, and or some vehicles from 4th Canadian AD, there are a few pictures of 1st PAD in Bergen, I might be confused, but thought that one was 1st PAD. Unless 4th CAD kept their Crusader AA's, the Canadians did have a few in Normandy, but I don't know if they kept them post Normandy.

Here we go !

Does it have some kind of articulated frame? Something doesn't look symmetric there.

Robert Bergeron 15-05-20 03:56

Hi Rob . Always the keen eye . The box is not sitting properly on the frame because one of the wooden runners underneath it is rotten. Will fix that shortly . I jacked the box slightly on one side to replace the wooden runner . Otherwise a clean truck with original engine , transmission and transfer case and a restorable box . Easier job when you already have a complete original to compare it to .

What’s especially fun of this restoration started by Richard is that it runs ! I can take care of the finer details and originality and still enjoy driving it around !

Jordan Baker 21-06-20 03:01

Looks great with the original table.

Robert Bergeron 21-06-20 14:26

Thanks Jordan , very nice of you. Next : Original lighting fixtures are going in the box .

Credit : Louis Meulstee Wiresless for the warrior Vol 2 page 37 of the No 19 set section . With the original table now , my box will be set up exactly like this one in the picture . Of note , the wooden battery boxes on the lower right side , similar to the ones i have made and that Jordan is making currently .

Hello gents . Looking for a high resolution file of this diagram please . David Dunlop distributed them for free 3-5 years ago . I need one to see the dotted lines of the 110 V instalation because i have now found an original functional Onan 10LS generator for my 2K1 box . It is the companion of the No19 HP ( high power ) set . Thanks .

Onan 110 V / 12 V power generator

Here is my barn find . Mind blowing . Changed the oil in the sump , replaced the oil in the air filter , filled the gascolator bowl with good gas , wired up a 12 V battery and it started at first try !

Robert Bergeron 09-09-20 00:53

Now that’s better . Seen here with Dirk’s original spares box and instruction booklet .110 Volt power to the No 19 HP set and 12 Volts to charge the batteries . The No19 HP set has a dual power switch : 12 Volt or 110 Volts !

I posted a PDF file in response to Robert's "wanted" post at http://www.mapleleafup.net/forums/sh...ad.php?t=31513 Cross reference is provided to help others find the drawing (and reduce storage requirements).
