Short Update

Finally, finally, finally...

Got a drivers door on.

Interesting note to fold the new skin over the frame I was told to hit it with a block of wood and a hammer. The metal when struck by the wood folds but doesn't leave marks.

Lot of late nights in April but the idea was to get it on before Anzac Day.

Again, drove it to Batemans Bay to be with my Grandfather in the service.

Looks pretty good, or should say factory fresh

Hi Tony

You have done a first class job. Good tip on the using wooden block to beat down the edge without leaving marks.

Cheers Phil

Thanks Phil, Alex and Bob for the kind words.

When I first got into it after a test fit, first words were "Geez this is cramped!!"

But Ive now done 500 km's since fitting it and I now wish I had done it sooner.

Thanks again to a very helpful neighbour who tutored and helped with the work.

A few more

Found a few more.

Nice to have an old Cab 13 as the work bench.

Striker was missing (broken) but a new one from Macs was used and it is almost impossible to tell the difference.

Door was test fitted and swung OK.

The catch had been repaired at one stage... using enough weld and metal to repair a shell hole after the battle of Jutland.

Took me and hour to grind it back so the door could shut.

Made up the bottom Map pocket. Hides all the corrosion down in that area.

Found all the correct fasteners from Macs.

One that goes in the door A81002.

That looks bloody awesome mate.! It’s unbelievable at just how much of a difference it has made in its apparence. I hope the cramps weren’t too bad on the run down and back in that lovely, roomy foot well.! I struggled to find room in my portee and I still didn’t have a door fitted and went from one end of the paddock to the other, so my hats off to you :note:

On a side note, are the side curtains made up off of a template or photos for a cab 12 or are they made up to look the part and do the job.?

Also, I’m really glad to see your grandfather still making it to participate in the marches mate. It would be a moment to cherish every year.

Thanks Beau

Side curtains were copies off an original provided by Mr Max Hedges.

The bloke who made them did a good job but he has mucked up the back a bit, which I will get altered.

Have a look at the side curtain thread a couple of threads down the page in the softskin forum.

Looks fantastic, Tony. Good to see that the Riverina blokes are leading the way!

Cheers,

What do you do when Covid is rampant, you need a break from your current restoration project and the other half and yourself have a day off?

Answer - go for drive around the local farming district with a packed lunch in a Cab 12 F60L.

We are experiencing the perfect season. Rain has been falling in exactly the right amounts at exactly the right time. Crops you could walk on. Livestock as fat as butter.

An amazing turn around from one of the more brutal summers 6 months ago.

My photographic artistry is atrocious. Here's a couple more anyway.

Perfect weather for it as well.

Danny Devers 26-08-20 11:07

Good to see it out and about.

Alex van de Wetering 26-08-20 14:01

Tony,

Good to see you're enjoying the truck and the nice weather! Great pics and still and awesome restoration.
